KHALIL, THE MONKEE ON TV
Dear Lantang,
Since Khalil Yaakob took over Kementerian Penerangan, I have never seen
Wan Azizah on the local TV, not even NTV7. I think it is correct to
assume that WA's face has been banned from local TV. Every time she sees
Wan Azizah on TV, my mother-in-law always become 'sebak'. I think
banning WA from local TV is a smart move by the BN government.
Even my mother, who always voted for BN (and will probably do so again
in this upcoming election) is very sympathetic with WA. But she still
believes that AI shouldn't go against MM. "Let Allah punish whoever is
guilty between those two in the Judgement day", that's what she always
say. But she may have swing her vote if she gets more pictures of WA on
TV.
One more smart move by BN is by equating government with BN and BN with
government. We in Malaysia has never had any non-BN federal government,
so, the common rakyat can easily be convinced that BN is the government.
and vice versa. Of course Americans for example cannot imagine a
Democrat President asking the students of a 80% state-sponsored
University in his state to support him in a Presidential election
because his government sponsored the University. Such strategy would
backfire or is even illegal there! But not here,we are not Americans.
Realistically speaking many still think that we have that 'kenang budi'
or 'appreciative' value that we should maintain and nobody can blame
them.
However the BN also has made some not-so-smart moves. One example is the
assignment of too many thugs to hang around suspiciously full time at
soc.culture.malaysia and responding to EVERY postings that are related
to the upcoming election issues. The rate of which these guys are
responding is amazing (I think they are being paid bonus based on the #
of postings). This strategy is no good since they are all too focused on
scum, and nobody reads scum anyway. They should have distributed their
resources more evenly ie one in scum, one or two in sang kancil, one or
two in adil.net, updating some of the web pages that they have, making
new ones etc. They should also concentrate on quality postings instead
of quantity, and should not post too often, which will cause people to
become suspicious of them (ehh kuli gomen tu!)
However, frankly I think BN should not focus on Internet at all and
should focus where they are good at - the electronic media. Internet is
a powerful media but not as powerful as the TV. One suggestion though,
instead of the current one-sided reports and forums on the TV, BN should
allow more balanced opinions to be voiced ou, and a debate or two.Yes,
it is a weird suggestion but I AM CONVINCED THAT BN would be able to
improve their image tremendously by doing that since most of us know
that those talented leaders of ours would be able to woo those fence
sitters with their sound arguments and substantiated claims and the
rakyat will be exposed to the incompetencies of the opposition on
National TV.
