Overview:
Like many who serve in the Hanseatic Security Forces, Carson Martens is both Merchant and Warrior. It was the skills of the Merchant that allowed him to improve his skills as a Warrior. He serves the Hansa as a Commander in Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) 4, which is commanded by his uncle, Captain-General Lars Muldoon. For the past fourteen years he has captained the Third Company of the RDF’s Second Battalion, fighting battles against pirates or smugglers and making the odd business deal along the way, most of them mediocre or worse. However, his fortunes have changed in the past few years, some would say that is luck, others say that he has finally learned the art of the deal. They would be, and are, wrong.
In June of 3061, Commander Martens and his company were conducting anti-piracy patrols in the anti-Spinward sector of RDF 4’s area of operations when they came upon a small fleet of JumpShips in the Mundo Nublar system. The ships bore the symbol of the previously unknown Word of Blake and there were, allegedly, in the system to conduct research on the gas giants in the system. Precentor Jeremiah Bozeman did not want to draw unwanted attention to his true mission and was willing to make an ‘arrangement’ with local authorities so that his team could continue with their research uninterrupted.
Mundo Nublar was nothing more than an asteroid mining colony and had a population of less than two million on the planet and aboard the numerous mining stations in the two asteroid belts and so little in the way of traffic, so Commander Martens jumped at the chance to make a deal. However, he was not going to let his lust to close the deal get in the way of getting everything he could. After several sessions, he got his deal and Precentor Bozeman got his security. As part of the deal, the Blakists would supply the Hansa with advanced weapons and other military technology in exchange for secrecy in their research and access to the Hansa’s asteroid mining technology.
Within weeks the Council of Merchants approved the deal Commander Martens negotiated and rewarded him with first choice of the new technologies they received. Martens, not wanting to look too greedy in front of his superiors chose the double heat sinks and a brace of advanced medium lasers. As another reward, he and his company were chosen to garrison the Mundo Nublar to protect the security of the Blakist research from prying eyes.
It has been six years since he met the Blakists and he still believes the deal he made was the best deal he ever made. History, however, would paint him as the arbiter of destruction and an agent of evil.

Fluff notes: I took liberty with the WoB activites on Mundo Nublar and based the fluff on what was given on the top of page 200 of FM: Updates.
