Frequently Asked Questions About Safes
![]() ( These are a few of the most common questions asked )
Q: My safe opens fine , why should I have it serviced?
A: It is recommended by most safe manufactures that you have your safe serviced annually by a qualified technician. During the service process, the lock assembly is removed. Each piece of the lock is then cleaned and inspected for any signs of excessive wear. Worn or broken parts are replaced as needed ( in some cases the lock itself maybe replaced) and then properly lubricated and reassembled. The lock assembly is then replaced in the safe and the combination is reset and tested for proper operation. The locking bolt work is then inspected and cleaned and lubricated as needed. Over all, this is a low-cost prevention to a lockout situation with your safe
Q: When should I have the combination to my safe changed?
A: We strongly recommend the combination be changed each time there is a change of personnel that has had access to your safe. This is also a very good time to have the locks changed on your business. This is cheap insurance against unauthorized entry into both your business and your safe.
Q: My safe will not open but it worked fine yesterday. What do I need to do?
A: While is rare for a safe combination to just stop working, it does happen from time to time. In most all cases there are signs of a problem long before a lockout situation occurs. These signs maybe as simple as the dial feels different when you turn it. It may feel stiffer or easier to turn than normal. There maybe unusual noises. You may feel the dial bind as you turn it. You may have to try the combination more than once to open the safe. These are all signs of a problem developing with your safe. First, check to be sure you are using the correct combination to the safe and that you are entering it correctly. Second, while entering the combination, turn the dial at a slower rate. By doing this you will (also) extend the life of the lock assembly. Should you be able to get the safe open, DO NOT close the safe door!!! With the door in the open position, throw the locking bolts and turn the dial to prevent someone else from locking the safe. Let everyone know of the problem and then call us to set up an appointment to correct the problem. A lack of service is the leading cause of lock outs.
Q: How much is it going to cost to open my safe and how soon can you be here?
A: Price is determined by the brand or manufacture of your safe and the rating of the safe you have. In some cases we will need to see the safe before we can quote you a price. Please call and we will be more than happy to discuss this with you. We understand how critical proper safe operation is to our customers. We strive to offer same day service, standing by our commitment to meet your security needs. If we can not provide same day service you can rest assured we will inform you of this at the time you call allowing you maximum notice for the necessary arrangements to secure your property.
Q: My safe has an electronic lock on it and has stopped working / just beeps at me. What should I do ?
A: Most electronic lock failures are a result of weak or dead batteries. Change the batteries. Be sure to use a name brand ALKALINE battery as it does make a difference with electronic safe locks. Should this not correct your problem call us for an appointment.
Q: Money is missing from the safe and I know it was there when I left. Is there away to tell if someone opened the safe after I left?
A: In short - no. What we can do is install a locking system that will allow you to control who opens the safe and when they can open it. You will also be able to access a complete audit trail that will allow you to see who has opened the safe and when they opened it.
Q: Can you fix my safe to where it takes two people to open it ?
A: Yes, we can by several different means. It can be as simple installing a key locking dial on your safe to installing an electronic safe lock that requires two different combinations to be entered before it will open.
