Doom 3 May Come to PS2
At QuakeCon today, Id Lead Programmer John Carmack said that the highly anticipated PC first-person shooter Doom 3 may be ported to PS2 and Xbox. He added that a conversion won't look as good as the PC version on PS2 -- the Xbox port will look pretty near to the PC version, though levels will be segmented because of RAM restrictions. Activsion has an excellent relationship with Id, so it's the most likely potential publisher. Also, Id is not likely to develop the potential game, leaving the task for an outside developer.
Angel Studios Transworld Surf Rides to PS2
At this year's E3 in May, Infogrames told IGN that Transworld Surf would be coming to Xbox and PlayStation 2, but within days after the event, the company changed its tune. The official word was that Infogrames would only be making Angel Studios' potentially brilliant surfing game for the Xbox. (Hong Kong) Phooey!
Well, after a little word dancing from the officials, who still won't admit that the game is coming to PS2 -- the first surfing game to approach the game with multiple wave sets, incredible water and wave physics (which remind us of Rainbow Studios' Splashdown water), great, deep tubes, split sections, transparent water (in which players can see reefs, rocks and whatnot) -- IGNPS2 has learned that Transworld is INDEED coming to PlayStation 2, about four to six months after the Xbox version. YES! Go Angel!
Airblade Plays Like a Dream
Even though we had the chance to play a bit of Airblade during E3, our European correspondent had spent some solid time playing the game, and says, "I had a chance to get to grips with an demo build of Airblade and that game is '*&%#@^' off the hook...it looks amazing and plays pretty well..." Airblade still isn't officially announced for the US yet, but it will be, it will be...
Rockstar and Ratbag Connect
Although nothing has been announced just yet from Rockstar, the NY-based company is working with the Australian developer, Ratbag (World of Outlaws Sprint Car Racing), to create a first-person shooter due in 2002. We're not sure exactly which game is it, but we're sure it's not Duke Nukem or any of Rockstar's already announced licenses. Just keep your eyes on these two companies as they grow and create better and better games.
