Reference by Dr. William A. Newman, Ph.d
The purpose of this letter is to provide a reference for Syed S. Ghaznavi
whom I have known as a student, supervisor and a research assistant for a
period of two years during his stay at Texas A&M Intl. I first came to
know Syed in a Sept 01' during an advanced programming class that I
taught. It was the first class that he took with me followed by a second
in the next semester as an elective towards his degree.
Accordingly, having gotten to know Syed fairly well over the past two years I believe puts me in a position to provide you with an assessment of his abilities and character. As a student Syed was a hard working and highly committed to his education, I believe that his excellent transcripts will attest to that fact. In addition he was quite involved in other career building activities and was a member of a number of student clubs and organizations. I was impressed by his dedication and commitment towards his goals , as he managed all expenses of graduate studies on his own by working as a lab assistant and also as a graduate assistant. Syed's interest in programming and learning new technologies compelled me to let him work on the new addition of my textbook on Visual Basic.NET in which he contributed as a review editor and developed solutions for the exercises in the two versions of the book. His research was always meticulous and comprehensive, and his examination always accurate. Additionally, his writing style has always been clear, concise and evocative. Recently, Syed wrote a research paper with me, which will be presented at an IS conference in Acapulco in March 2003. I also am the overall administrator for the college of Business computer labs where Syed worked as a lab assistant throughout his stay at TAMIU. He was considered well skilled and was always proactive in helping out students and staff with their computer problems, making him their first choice for assistance. I was quite impressed by Syed's ability to complete all work assigned to him on time, if not before it was due. Syed is a very conscientious and able scholar. I certainly believe he has what it takes to make a great researcher and I strongly recommend Syed for the position in his major field of interest in Databases and development. I will be glad to share any further any further information about him. Sincerely, William A.
