My Pet Page

What kind of pet do you have? I have several. On the right is my pet Jeeves. Jeeves is an asian elephant. He is 12 years old, and still has all his baby teeth! He lives at the Detroit Zoo for now, until I can move into a place that will let me keep him in my yard!

Elephants eat up to 200 pounds of hay and grass every day. They are very gentle creatures, but they are also very big! He could hurt you and not even know it! So I have to be very careful when I visit him.

My other pets are a giraffe named Stretch and a turtle named Bob. Both of them reside at the zoo too.

Sometimes it is hard to see them, but it is better they live in their natural habitat, and the Zoo provides them with that. These three animals I have adopted through the Zoo's adopt a pet program, and I have to say I am really happy with the results.

On the homefront, I have one dog and two cats. They are Bentley, Harlequin, and Tiger.

Bentley is a dog. Bentley (8) is a beagle. Here are some photos.

Panda was my watchdog. She's on the left. She morphed into all fangs when there were people around. She just didn't like people. She joined the angels in February 2002. Bentley will watch you rob the house, but his bark always makes me laugh. He is a pedigree, and his registered name is Khris' Bugle Baby.

On the left here is Harlequin, (14), and the big white guy on the right is Ghost (10). Harlequin is a tuxedo cat, Ghost is an alley cat.

Harlequin is the friendly type, but Ghost had a tendency to hide when folks came around. Neither of them like the ferrets. Unfortunately, Ghost also joined the angels recently. I miss them both.

This little fur-bearing critter is Robbie. He is an albino ferret, approximately 5 years old, and absolutely refuses to answer to his name. He prefers to be called "Ratboy" and will come running when addressed as such. The other one is called Rocky, and he is a sable. I do not have any pictures of him yet. Unfortunately, both of them are gone too. They went of natural causes.

I couldn't let them out to run around when the dogs were in the house, bcause Panda saw them as fur-covered breakfast sausages. Bentley saw them as a snack food too, so I'm afraid that the ferrets and dogs were always seperate in this house.

But Ferrets are engaging critters. Their natural curiosity got them into all kinds of trouble when they were running the house. They sneaked (they are weasels, you know) up on the cats, tunneled under appliances, and ran with their back arched across the floor. They were mainly interested in getting the cats to play, but my cats were too lofty to play with rats.

Sometimes I let them out to run around for a while. I have watched them disconnect my modem from the wall, roll around in my trash receptacle, and come out from under my upright freezer covered with soot. I have watched them drink their bath water, and leap on my shoe to teach it a lesson. Waving a towel in front of them is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. They charge the towel beast and try to kill it.

They are always good for a laugh!
