The Gridiron Conference is made up of High Schools who compete in 8 man football whose average enrollment over a three year period exceeds 70. These schools are not eligible to compete in the state 8 man football tournament. However, the top 4 schools do hold a playoff of their own at the end of the year.
Next year, this conference could have as many as 36 teams in it, given that many teams are over the 70 player limit and playing in D1 under a 1 year exemption. My favorite proposal to deal with this is to allow any school that qualifies as class D1 in basketball and/or volleyball to also be eligible for the 8 man football championsip. That would cover most of the current gridiron and D1 exemption teams. A few schools, most notably Elm Creek and Lincoln Lutheran, would still be ineligible, but those schools should be seriously considering 11 man ball, as they are truly class C schools.
