~Chapter Fourteen~
Krissy just stared at Ned as if someone had just knocked the wind out of her.
"Excuse me?" she said hoping she had heard wrong.
"I'm so sorry, I just don't want you living thinking that I abandoned you.
"NO!! no, stop it! wh-why are you saying that?"
"Kristina I am telling you the truth!".
"Why? why would my mother tell me you were my father?"
"I can't get into this with you now, you have to discuss this with Alexis...this is not my problem anymore! Alexis made it loud and clear after you were born that she didn't want me near you".
Krissy felt as if she was going to pass out, why would her mother lie to her? "Did Kristina believe you were my father?".
Ned took a deep breath and closed his eyes, remembering the day when he told Kristina that Alexis was having his baby. The lie that had killed her, a lie that if only didn't happen Kristina may still be alive today. "At first she did, but then she knew...she knew I never cheated on her".
"I don't understand, why would she think you were my father..unless" Krissy tried to catch her breath "unless you told her you were?!?".
Ned stared at the ground "If I could take that back, my god I swear to god if I could go back in time and just tell Kristina the truth right away she may still be". Ned suddenly stopped what he was about to say.
"May still be what?" Krissy whispered to herself. Tears began to flow down her cheeks again "If you're not my father who??...who is?".
"Daddy?" Ned and Krissy both jumped as the little boy opened the door.
"Maine! why don't you go back inside with Abigail and your mother, daddy is a little busy at the moment".
Maine looked up at Krissy and said "you look sad, are you okay?".
Krissy tried to hide her tears from flowing down "I'm fine" she smiled at Maine.
"How do you know my daddy?".
Before Krissy could answer Ned said "Maine if you go back inside I promise I'll take you mommy and Abbi out for ice cream..what d'ya say! do we gotta deal?".
Maine smiled "deal!" and he walked back inside the house.
Ned put his arm around Krissy to try and comfort her. "Don't!" she cried out. "I..I'm sorry! I just have to sit down for a second". Krissy grabbed a spot on the steps.
"I'm not one you should be discussing this with" Ned sat next to her.
"D-do you even know who my real father is?" Krissy stuttered
Ned looked at her for a minute realizing the beautiful young woman she had become. He could tell her who her real father was but decided against it. No matter how much he hated Alexis for pushing him away he didn't want Sonny's world to touch her.
"I don't know! I'm sorry Alexis came to me pregnant and asked me to pretend to be your father".
"And you agreed? even though you we're seeing Kristina?".
"Kristina and I were having some problems at the time and I just decided to go along with it".
"So you and my mother lied to her, why would you hurt her like that?".
"It all happened so fast...and then the accident happened and I told Kristina the truth in the hospital just before she died".
"Did she forgive my mother"?.
"Yes! yes she died with you're mother by her side. Alexis promised her the baby would be named after her".
"Do you know why she was at the warehouse?".
"NO! no one knows...I'm sorry. Ned lied and then said “Kristina I have to get back inside! do you need money to get home?".
"Home" the word home seemed so foreign. “I have it covered”.
Ned looked at her with concern, “do you need me to take you anywhere?”.
”The bus station” Krissy said feeling a little embarrassed for losing her temper a little while ago.
”I’m just going to tell Faith and the kids and I’ll be right out”.
”You seem like you’re a great father” Krissy said with a little smile forming.
Ned looked at her still amazed how much she resembled Kristina. “Thanks, that means a lot”. Ned gave her a big smile and went into the house.
