Ok, I have received so many request for a story of this
kind. Seems we all remember a different version from when we were children. I couldn't
find the original on the web so I created my own "version". I hope the kids
enjoy this as much as I did many years ago. Please, just make sure that the children are
at an age group where this will not frighten them too much. Start this story by
blindfolding every child. Tell them not to peek.
"The House" "It's haunted", were the words the teacher whispered in
their Science class that afternoon. "HAUNTED?", they all echoed. Child, after
child, searched the room looking for anyone who didn't believe. It was obvious they all
did. After all, it was Halloween. The bell rang and the students filed out to the
hallways, gathering their things for the trek home.
"Steve!", yelled Jimmy. "Wait up, I have something to talk to you
about." Steve, his brown hair rumpled as much as his shirt, slowed his pace as his
best friend ran to him. "What are you doing tonight, after trick or treating I
mean?." Steve put a sour look on his face, "Staying home.", he sighed. My
mom had a fit when she saw my score on the last math test. I really need to study."
"Well, I have a great idea and if you go with me I'll help you study for the next
one", Jimmy promised. Steve saw the excitement all over his friend's face. Then
again, Jimmy always seemed excited about something. They have been friends since he could
remember. No matter what, Jimmy was always there for him. "Where are we going?",
he inquired. "The Haunted House!", Jimmy shouted........
That night the two boys shuffled slowly up the walk to the house. They knew the things
people said about this place. They wondered why they were drawn here after all the things
they had heard. Gathering their wits they approached the door. The house had been empty
for years and the spider webs all over the front porch proved it. They tried the door knob
and were surprised when it opened easily. The looked at each other, took a deep breath and
entered the dark house.
"WOW!", Jimmy exclaimed, as he looked around the massive hall in front of them.
"This is way too cool." Steve stared at his friend wondering how he could think
that. He felt the srange presence in this house, he couldn't believe that Jimmy didn't
feel it too. Right then a howl came shooting down the huge staircase from somewhere up
above. Jimmy and Steve jumped as a blast of cold air hit them smack in the face. (Use
keyboard air cleaner for this effect. Make sure you're not too close)
The startled boys turned to run but an unknown force pasted their feet to the floor. Try
as they might, they were unable to move. As they stood there in horror, a face appeared in
front of them. The ghoulish smile was filled with yellow teeth. The eyes, a frightening
red, seemed to peer right through them. The eyes were so close the kids felt like they
could touch them. (Here is where you would place 2 peeled grapes in each child's hand.)
"No, No!", screamed Jimmy and Steve, as they recolied from the face. Their feet
finally broke loose and they ran to the back of the house. There, the boys found the
kitchen. As they looked around, Steve noticed a cupboard that they would be able to fit
in. He hooked onto Jimmy's arm and pulled him to their escape.
Crawling in as fast as they could, they shut the door behind them. A sense of relief was
showering both of them while they moved to adjust themselves in the tight space. The
relief was short lived as Jimmy's hand came to rest in some kind of container. He felt the
"ooze" between his fingers as his palm landed in a bowl of worms. The ones that
weren't squishing between his fingers, were slowly crawling up his arms and inside his
shirt. (Place each child's hand in a bowl of over-cooked spaghetti and press down)
"Let's get out of here!", he screamed while desperately trying to get the worms
off his body.
The friends jumped out of the hiding place and ran to the front door. The skidded to a
stop and twisted the handle. It wouldn't move. They heard rustling in the room to the
right and were just about to let out another scream, when the lights came on.
Their eyes were fighting to adjust to the light when they heard, "Happy
Halloween!", and there, in front of them, was the whole Science Class! "I knew
if I told you kids about this house being haunted you would have to see for
yourself.", the teacher explained. "I thought of this idea weeks ago and Mr.
Irving, the owner, was kind enough to let us use it for our Halloween Party." The
boys stared at the crowd in disbelief. They turned to each other and smiled a smile that
only best friends would understand. "We knew it all the time", Jimmy stated as
he reached for a piece of cake. "We weren't fooled a bit."
