Yoke died June 30, 1997. I knew him in the early and mid 80s, but lost touch. He came to our circle deaf, able to speak only broken Japanese and blossomed into a spectacular fan dancer. How much he loved America. How much he didn't want to go back to Japan. I remember his sense of humor and how he laughed. He went to school at Gallaudet. |

LARRY SPAUSTAT |
Larry died September 19 at the age of 44. I'll always be grateful for how we became particularly close after his partner Gary died. Gary would have been pleased that we got closer. Larry was a generous man of heart. If you go to the Washington Blade web sight, scroll to the box marked Obituaries and go to their obituary archives, you can view his obituary by searching for his name.. Unfortunately, they have the wrong date his lover Gary Thompson died but they captured alot of his memory. |
NIKKI FRIED |
Nikki died August 28 wrapped in mystery that only Fire Island can provide. There is a story there, but I don't know it. the one I know is the time on the Island, in her loft in NYC on so many Christmas Eves, the times we dragged a tree in the snow to decorate, the times we dragged speakers for the GMHC morning party before it became a circuit party and on and on. |
STEVE MICHAELS |
I believe Steve died in September. He was a champion of AIDS prevention and activism. Steve and I talked online for two years before meeting. Turned out he lived three blocks from us. Active in Act-Up, he was a one man army. He loved Wayne very much. |
