Here are some notes I made when I compared the following 12 tracks on the Drifter CD Moonlight Madness, the Polydor CD Hawks, and Tales.

 

  1. Moonlight Madness [fast original mix]             5:09 Moonlight Madness

Moonlight Madness [new mix]                           5:12 Hawks

One difference between the original and the new mixes is the added cymbal on the first beat of the new mix.

The Moonlight Madness version begins and fades at the same point as the Hawks version, but ends 3 seconds sooner than the Hawks version because it plays slightly faster.

Curiously, all of the other songs on Moonlight Madness play at exactly the same speed as the Hawks versions. Could this song have been slowed down on Hawks? Possibly; but the speed variance was more likely introduced by the bootleg.

One obvious difference between old & new mix is the added cymbal on the first beat of the new mix.

Hawks fades 2 seconds sooner than original mix.

Compared to the Hawks version, the Tales version fades 3 seconds sooner and the bass is reduced slightly.

The new edit may also be a new mix. It has one entire 11-second chorus removed just before the fade on Hawks.

Hawks fades 2 seconds later than Moonlight Madness.

Compared to Hawks, Tales has an early fade that drops the last 7 seconds and the bass is reduced slightly.
