Atheist-Christian Debates
29: Movie List
The following films have come up in my discussions with the agnostic. Not very many, I admit, but the guy didn't watch that many movies anyway.
- The Apostle: About a man with a dynamic prayer and spiritual life.
- Signs: Regardless of it being parodied, this is an excellent philosophical film.
- Contact: Atheists and agnostics hate it, but it's one of my all time favorites. The best line: "Do you love your father?...Prove it."
- The Matrix Series: Entertaining, but makes a weak philosophical point. It's an idea dating back to Plato's cave.
- Ben (Remake): Very emotional. One could make a weak case for God's love by identifying ourselves as Socrates the rat, and Ben being Satan...maybe.
- Bruce Almighty: Atheists and agnostics tend to miss the finer points of the dialogue, often echoing what Jim Carrey's character is saying inadvertently. But if you pay attention to the underling messages instead of the special effects, you'd see more of an argument for theism in it.
- Final Destination 2: The only argument for theism you can get out of this movie is a weak argument for God's punishment of unbelievers. (i.e. "God is out to get you" or "Death is out to get you.") Entertaining movie, except for the brief nudity. Not a great religious conversation starter.
