Palestine

 In May 2004, I participated in the project 'Music for Music', organized by Project Hope. Music-for-Music existed of workshops for children in schools and community centers in the the Balata- and Askar- refugee camps in Nablus, in the village Jayyous and in Hebron. Participants were students and former students of the Music Conservatory of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The unbelievable mess the Israeli army by now has made of the city of Nablus, the vulgar theft of Palestinian land, under the pretence of the 'Security Fence', the un-concealed fascist manner the Israeli Army at the checkpoints treats Palestinian citizens, the massacres by Israel on people of the Palestinian resistance and on the innumerable other Palestinians who perish 'by accident', the structural demolition of Palestinian buildings and cultural objects: the Music-for-Music project could not do anything to stop it. But it did bring music into the refugee camps!

Palestijns / internationale organisatie die met behulp van vrijwilligers onderwijs en allerlei projecten op touw zet voor kinderen in de vluchtelingenkampen in Nablus en elders in Palestina. Vrede is niet het eindpunt van de weg van geweld. Talrijke kinderen wordt via Project Hope getoond dat het gevoel van vreugde en vrede bereikt kan worden zonder invloed van welke regeringsbesluiten dan ook.

Stichting Kifaia is een organisatie van Nederlandse vrijwilligers die gehandicapten in de Gazastrook, voornamelijk kinderen en jongeren, praktisch steunt. Gewerkt wordt met beroepskrachten en vrijwilligers in de Gazastrook. Over het werk van deze stichting leest U alles in 'Habibi habibi', het aangrijpende boek van Anja Meulenbelt (Eerste-Kamerlid voor de Socialistische Partij in Nederland).

De heldere denkers van Gush Shalom (Israëlisch Vredes Blok) bepleiten eenvoudige rechtvaardigheid. Gush Shalom werd opgericht door Uri Avneri en anderen in 1993, volgend op een protestactie tegen het al te rechtse, repressieve beleid van de toenmalige regering Rabin (Arbeidspartij). Het onafhankelijke Gush Shalom vindt onder meer dat Israël zich uit alle Palestijnse gebieden (de grens van vóór 1967) dient terug te trekken, dat Oost-Jerusalem de hoofdstad van Palestina is, dat de Palestijnse vluchtelingen recht hebben op terugkeer naar Israël of naar keuze compensatie. Op de website zijn tal van documenten en artikelen te vinden die op antwoord geven op vragen die in Israël niet zo vaak beantwoord worden.

Stichting Stop de Bezetting, onder voorzitterschap van Gretta Duisenberg, biedt informatie over de Palestijns-Israëlische kwestie, houdt handtekeningenacties, houdt het beleid van de Nederlandse regering en de Europese Unie onder de loep, schudt mensen wakker.
