In May 2004, I participated in the project 'Music
for Music', organized by Project
Hope. Music-for-Music existed of workshops for children in
schools and community centers in the the Balata- and Askar- refugee
camps in Nablus, in the village Jayyous and in Hebron. Participants
were students and former students of the Music Conservatory of
Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The unbelievable mess the Israeli army by now has made of the
city of Nablus, the vulgar theft of Palestinian land, under the
pretence of the 'Security Fence', the un-concealed fascist manner
the Israeli Army at the checkpoints treats Palestinian citizens,
the massacres by Israel on people of the Palestinian resistance
and on the innumerable other Palestinians who perish 'by accident',
the structural demolition of Palestinian buildings and cultural
objects: the Music-for-Music project could not do anything to
stop it. But it did bring music into the refugee camps!
