Out of his mirror a beautiful goddess named Belldandy appears to grant him any one wish he desires. Confused and disbelieving of his luck, Keiichi wishes he had a girlfriend just like Belldandy to stay with him forever. Much to his surprise, she grants it and a wish contract is made which is enforced by the omnipotent "Ultimate Force" which states that she has to stay with him forever. However, having a goddess permanently bonded to him causes some problems for a guy who lives in an all-male dorm, and when the sempai returns he and Belldandy are literally tossed out. Keiichi and Belldandy look for a house but turn up nothing, so they move into an old temple, where they are soon joined by Belldandy’s sisters, Urd and Skuld and Keíchi's younger sister Megumi. The stories gets more entertaining, romantic and funnier as they go. In Norse mythology Urd and Skuld are two of three sisters (Verdande, Urda, and Skuld) who were the caretakers of the tree of life, Yggdrasil. In Oh My Goddess, Yggdrasil is the huge computer that keeps reality intact and the two sisters keep it running and free of bugs (bugs being sort of like bunnies which Skuld promptly squashes with her sledgehammer).
