In Fink Lab (2001-present) I have been working on proteins prone to aggregation and fibrillation relevant to both medicine and industry. About 21 diseases, reported so far, have been found to be caused by amyloid fibril formation including serious neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's or Prion's. Besides, aggregation renders a significant amount of industrially produced proteins to waste. I worked to study; 1) the effects of various additives on the kinetics of fibril formation and 2) elucidating the mechanistic pathway towards fibril formation on two proteins; 1) Insulin and 2) Synuclein. for more click.......
