The
Holy Order of Our Lady of Debauchery |
In the first monasteries and sacred communities, many different cycles were observed; the seasons of the year and the mythic cycles as well as the cycles of the day. The prayers listed below are an attempt to show the types of things a worshipper of Our Lady of Debauchery would say to commemorate the phases of the day; they are suggestions, and if you would like to share yours, feel free to email us with them.
(Prime is typically defined as dawn, or 6am.)
Prime: Thank you, lady, for the day
And please help me find a way
In every thing I say & do
To bring glory & Joy to you.
(Terce is "the third hour", midmorning, or 9am.)
Terce: Give me strength with the rising sun
To get all the stuff that I wanna do done.
And then I'll play, as I always do,
To bring glory & Joy to you.
(Sext is "the sixth hour", noon.)
Sext: Lunchtime! Yay! Time to eat,
And maybe rest my bod & feet.
Help me have fun in all I do
To bring glory & Joy to you.
(None is "the ninth hour", midafternoon, or 3pm.)
None: As the sun sinks in the west,
Help me always do my best
In everything I say & do
To bring glory & Joy to you.
(Vespers is evening, sunset, or 6pm.)
Vespers: Thank you, Lady, for the day
That even now just fades away.
Be with me tonight so all I do
Will bring glory & Joy to you.
(Compline is midevening, or 9pm.)
Compline: I thank you for the night ahead;
If I had any brains, I'd be going to bed.
(or, Tonight I have brains; I'm going to bed. if it's more applicable.)
But I give You praise, whatever I do,
To bring glory & Joy to you.
(Matins is midnight, or 12am.)
Matins: Midnight is the witching hour,
The time when thoughts and Will have power.
I Will to do what I wanna do
To bring glory & Joy to you.
(Lauds, or sometimes Vigils, is o-dark-hundred, or 3am.)
Lauds: My Lady, how'd I stay up so long?
Always one more drink or one more song
Or one more silly thing to do
To bring glory & Joy to you.
