The life in the trenches for the soldiers was very tough and
extremely dangerous. They daily dealt with such rodents as lice and rats that
made their life unlivable. The prevented the soldiers from keeping their food
to themselves and also they were constantly getting bit by them and covered in
them. Also from the long times of standing in moist and gross mud in the
trenches causes the foot to go numb and soon disfigure. The constant bombing by
the artillery caused the soldiers to always be on alert with the extremely loud
sounds of the shellfire and sometimes even caused deafness.
