Interview of Brutus

Interviewer – Well, today the special guest on “Rome Today” is one of the most well respected and noble men in all of Rome, none other than Brutus.

Brutus – Why thank you for the kind words but I just view myself as a normal law abiding Roman, nothing special.

Interviewer – Wow where should we start? How about we will lead off with an inquiry about your thoughts on your very famous and respected lineage and family?

Brutus – I feel very blessed by the gods to share the same lineage as so many great Romans from the past. I try to model many aspects of my life on the actions, decisions, and the values shared by them. I can only pray that I can live up to the name that my grandfather who threw the last emperor out of Rome began and my father continued.

Interviewer – Very true indeed. However lets cut to the chase and get to the real questions. Why did you allow yourself to be flattered and coerced into something by Cassius?

Brutus – Well you see I believe that all men are good at heart and shared the same good and noble intentions that I felt. I truly believed that Cassius and the other conspirators were doing this deed to save Rome and not out of envy or greed.

Interviewer – Well that blind trust has caused many problems. Do you feel any remorse or shame in the assassination of Caesar?

Brutus – Sure I feel a deep sense of grief because Caesar was like a brother to me. But at the time I felt that he was a danger to the good of Rome and would plunge it into decline. Knowing what I know now I don’t believe I would do it again because I would be able to see through Cassius’ lies and envy.

Interviewer – If this is so then why did you fight alongside Cassius at the plains of Philippi?

Brutus – I did not fully see the truth until after the Ghost of Caesar visited me for the second time while at the plains of Philippi.

Interviewer – Do you feel that you have let down your family name?

Brutus – In a sense I do because the reasons and motivations behind the assassination of Caesar were not how I believed them to be. However no matter what reason or motivation I did prevent a single ruler from taking over the Republic of Rome just as my grandfather did.

Interviewer – Is there anything you would like to say to Cassius if you ever saw him again?

Brutus – Well it would be very hard to even look at him because of his lies, but I believe that there is always good in a man and he deserves to be forgiven.

Interviewer – Why thank you so much. You truly are an honorable and noble man.
