October 4: Journal: What is the difference between free will and fate? Is man’s existence determined by fate, or does he have free will? Explain.
With
free will man has the right to make his own choices and direct his own life not
a supernatural power. Whereas fate is a predetermined direction that life or a
supernatural power has already decided for you. I believe that man’s existence
is determined by free will in which he has the right to make his own choices
and shape his own future. For example I believe that by making the choice of
joining the army would change my life dramatically however my life could be
changed just as dramatically if I decided to go to college. However I also
believe that there is a supernatural power or God that already knows what my
future holds and knows how I will end up but also allows me to make my own
choices to get to the place where he always knew I would come. I don’t believe
that fate will be able to make me do something I would not have ultimately
chosen anyways. I believe that this God knew the choices I would make and thus
knew where I would end up, not the other way around. There are some things in
this world however that can not be controlled by myself and some could argue
that as fate. For example if there was a hurricane that destroyed my house and ruined
my business but also opened the door to a new business opportunity and home
that were better than before. But I would still have to make the choice to
pursue this new business opportunity and home. I believe that ultimately free
will, will aide in the direction that fate takes you.
