Statement of Intent
Brutus
My audio project
will explore and discuss the true feelings and motives behind the actions of
Brutus. An interviewer will dig deep
into Brutus’ feelings and emotions about the assassination of Caesar and the
truth about Cassius. This audio project will show Brutus as a noble and
honorable man who is able to admit that he was wrong but also take it in
stride. This is a practice that Brutus practices known as stoicism. Brutus will
speak about how he is able to follow in the footsteps of his great, noble, and
historic family lineage. He goes as far as to live up to his family name that
he believes that his assassination of Caesar was ok because it prevented a
single monarch or king from taking over the republic
of Rome. Brutus’ grandfather was
also the noble responsible for throwing the last ruler or emperor out of power
and setting the foundation for the republic. Brutus is blinded by the flattery
of Cassius who lies to him so that he will believe the lies of Cassius and join
his conspiracy to assassinate Caesar. Caesar was not even king at the time of
the assassination and in reality denied the crown three times when offered it
by Marc Antony. However Brutus bought into Cassius’
conspiracy that Caesar was a power hungry and ambitious man seeking to destroy
the republic and take the power and glory for himself. In actuality Cassius was
the more power hungry and ambitious man between him and Caesar. In this audio
project it will show how Brutus would react if he was able to speak with
Cassius again knowing what he now knows. Brutus’ response which is, “that it
would be hard to look at him but he would still forgive him because there is
always good in all men.” This is a continued theme in interview in which Brutus
believes that every men has good in him and have good intentions that benefit
the good of Rome and others. This is a good example of the greater struggle
Brutus deals with which he blindly trusts everyone. Since Brutus believes that
there is good in everyone then everyone should be trusted for their word. This
is because he himself can be trusted and has good intentions so he believes
everyone else shares his experiences. The entire audio project shows how Brutus
is a honorable and noble man who has good intentions
and blindly trusts those who will flatter him.
