Actually, Gilbert has a good role in that serial since he's such a nice sweet guy! The character's name is Fong Hok Man and he's the 3rd son of the Fong family and the child of the second wife. In the beginning, he was in bad terms with his father due to the death of the second son (in which the family blamed him and in many ways, he faulted himself). Verbal and sometimes reckless, he did not agree with his father's judgments, but due to his older brother's (Steve Ma) participation in the army, Gilbert, Amy, and Sheren rebuilt the Fong's family fortune (after they basically bankrupted), and needless to say, he and his father had a much better relationship. However, a blemish to his "name," was his falling in love with his sister-in-law (Amy), which was a big "no-no" even though his brother was rumored to be dead. However, he got over Amy and fell for her sister at the end and they made such a cute pair! Unfortunately, she also had a harsh childhood as she was shipped to a family friend when she was young and they sold her a brothel (I think) in another country. She resisted for a long time, but was still forced to become a prostitute and although her past did not bother Gilbert (since he realized that she was coerced and the situation was beyond her control), his mother discovered the truth and made a huge commotion about it. She stated that Amy's sister was not "clean" and not good enough to become the daughter-in-law of the Fong family. So, the pair still see one another for years, hoping that his mother would relent, and she did at the end. Just some last words on Gilbert's role! I actually thought Gilbert's character is the most likeable one in the entire serial since he was the one who endured the hardships and kept the family from falling apart when his brother is off to war. Although Steve's the male lead, but his character is selfish as he inadvertently hurt all those women who loved him and he just resumed his role of "head of family" when he recovered his memory. Although Gilbert was gracious about the entire ordeal, but I thought Gilbert should be heading the family business since he was one of the "big 3" to make the family business prosperous. This serial is a good one to watch, but a little too long for my taste!!!
