There have been a lot of changes since my last release of MaxSACs. Palmaris have kindly offered to distribute the new version as it now appeals to multiple specialties--hence the name change.
What's new ?…

Properly working (fast) Scroll bars have been added everywhere, this makes Revo compatibility much better, meaning features aren't lost just because of the smaller screen size. Note that the sex of the patient is now recorded and can be used in reports. Various problems with printing and merging have been fixed. Lots of small improvements have been added, all of which make using sLOG easier, faster and more intuitive.
Big Changes… I want sLOG to be the only software you need for keeping a surgical Logbook. After looking at what other specialties require and how they run their logbooks I made some significant changes. Recording of Academic Activity Most training bodies want to know what you have published, presented and what extra training you have undertaken. sLOG will now record all this for you in great detail, plus using the same system as for procedures, it will produce reports and lists using the academic record.

Often you will present a paper at a local meeting, then publish at a later date or present at a conference as well. As shown above, sLOG will let you record this, entering the data is by use of a decision tree… (below)

You are then given options just as you would when entering a surgical procedure, note the extra tab at the top which allows you to enter start and finish date & times including CME credits.

Recording of Experience and run records Many organisations want you to record how long you spent in each particular run and who you spent it with. They also want to know what advanced special clinics you attended. This is also recorded in a similar way to the academic record.

Reports… Reports come out just as they do for procedures, and can be modified in the same way. For example show me all the CME I've been to that was funded by the NHS. Or show me just the academic work I've done on a local scale and how much time this has taken.

What Specialties are available? At present I have produced:
Maxillofacial Surgery UK & Australasian General Surgery Netherlands, (I could do the UK version if anyone requests it) Obstetrics & Gynaecology UK Otolaryngology UK Paediatric Surgery UK & Australasia Plastic Surgery UK Opthalmology UK--almost complete Urological Surgery UK--awaiting response from SAC Orthopaedic Surgery--all 800 codes entered! I just need some help from an orthopaedic person--if you are out there then please contact me! SHO / HO general logbook that covers all specialties, partially done.
Note that the Logbook structure and codes for these specialties are made to fit the requirements of the SAC or relevant college. You should have no problem using this software and submitting a printed report from the Palmtop.
What's next? I have a MS Access 97 database which will read the Psion data. A LOT of people have asked me for this. I only just have it working and want to wait until I release sLOG--in case I change fields etc.
AO codes for fracture classification, will use the same system as the academic system. I just need to start entering the various codes, but I would like to get the orthopaedic Logbook working first…
What do you think? Well sLOG should be out soon, some helpful people have been beta testing bits for me, if you have any suggestions or criticisms please let me know before release.
I look forward to any comments Wayne
