The New New Girl
by:Cheryl
Julia Gallagher jumed over some random boxes in her room as she ran downstairs, "Come on mom!! We'll be late!" she called up to her mother, Holly Gallagher. 34 year-old Holly ran down the stairs, dressed in a nice suit, but her hair was a mess and she had no makeup on. She tossed the car keys to her 16 year old daughter, "You drive, I still need to finish getting ready"
"You know that Chilton is only 15 minutes away"
"Plenty of time," Holly said.
When they arrived at Julia's new school, Holly was still fixing her hair a little.
As they hurried to the office, Holly noticed a women about her age tossing a girl about Julia's age a tasty cake for breakfast. "Did you have breakfast?" she asked Julia.
"No"
Holly looked through her purse, "Mint?"
"No thanks"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia left the office and headed for her first class, which she was already a little late for. She handed the teacher a note. "Class, this is Julia Gallagher," she said as Julia took a random empty seat.
After class, Tristin Dugray, a boy in her class approached her in the hall way.
"Hey Mary," he said, using the same lines he had used on his crush, Rory. He had just met Julia, and was beginning to like her already. She reminded him of Rory in away. She had shoulder leangth golden hair, and deep blue eyes, which was nothing like Rory, but she had a very sweet face, the way Rory's was.
"Its Julia, and the Biblical insult thing is not cool, its just gay"
Tristin paused for a moment, "So anyway, you're new aren't you?"
"Yeah"
"If you would like maybe I could give you my notes to help you catch up"
"Sure that would be great"
"And maybe we could study together," he said moving closer to her.
Julia rolled her eyes, then quickly smiled at him, "Oh I'd love that," she said in a suductive voice as she teased him.
"Really?!" he said, not catching on.
"Oh Yeah........or
on second thought, NO!" she said laughing as she walked away from him.
That day at lunch, Julia looked around for someone to sit with. Rory Gilmore, a girl with long dark hair stopped her, "You can sit here," she said.
"Thanks," Julia said, "I thought I was going to have to sit all alone"
"Yeah, I know how that feels," Rory said, "So you're the new new girl right?"
"New new girl?"
"Well I'm the last new girl, I started here a few weeks ago"
"Oh, well I am the new new girl then," Julia laughed.
"Do you like Chilton so far?" Rory asked.
"Its wierd, especially the people, no offense or anything, I mean you seem normal, but all the other girls are sooooo snotty, and the guys, well, they are just strange!"
"I know what you mean"
"Yeah, like Bible boy over there," Julia said, pointing to Tristin, "I don't know his name or anything, but he called me Mary! I meann they use to do that when my mom was in school! I mean my mom's not old, but still"
"Yeah, thats Tristin, he did that to me too, I didn't know what it meant until my mom told me"
"Yeah it was probably around back when your mom was in school too"
"Oh, my mom's not old, she had me when she was 16 actually, so she's really young"
"Yeah, my mom too, she had me when she was 18, most poeple feel sorry for us, but I like it better that way"
"Yeah me too"
"So, where are you from anyway?"
"Here, it Hartford, but my mom's looking to move into some small town"
"Which one? I live in Stars Hollow"
"Oh, we were looking at a house there"
"Oh that would be so cool if you moved there"
"Yeah, we could hang out all the time"
"Yeah, and you could me Lane, my best friends, and my boyfriend, Dean, niether of the go here"
"Oh, that sucks"
"Its okay, I still see them a lot"
"Well thats good"
"What about you?"
"Nobody special, I mean I don't have a boyfriend right now, and I have friends, but not real good ones"
"I'm sorry"
"Its okay"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia and Rory walked out of school together, "How are you gettign home?" Julia sked.
"My mom"
"Me too, but starting tomorrow I'll be driving"
"Oh, I would drive, but I don't have a car"
"Yeah, I just got one"
"Lucky, my grandma wanted to buy me a car, but my mom wouldn't let her"
"Hi mom," Julia said as she spotted her mom standing by the car. Loralai, Rory's mom was actually right by her.
"Hey mom, this is Rory," Julia said, "They live in Stars Hollow"
"Hi," Holly said, "I'm Holly Gallagher, Julia's mom"
"Oh Hi," Loralai said, "I'm Loralai Gimore, Rory's mother, was it Julia's first day"
"Yeah"
"Yeah, Rory started here a few weeks ago"
"Oh----you said you live in Stars Hollow?"
"Yes"
"We were looking for a house there"
"Well it really is a great place"
"Yeah, I put an offer on a house, but I'm still waiting to hear back"
"Well tell us when you do, it would be great for Rory to have a friend from school in town"
"Yeah. they could carpool too, I just got Julia a new car, and I'm sure she wouldn't mind driving Rory, if she lived near by"
"Yes, well we'll have to talk later"
As Julia and Holly got in the car, Holly looked at Julia, "Well they're nice"
"Yeah"
"Okay, now you're going to get changed, and I'm gonna drop you off at the mall for awhile, I want you to buy new clothes"
"Um Okay, I have no problem with that"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hello?" Dean said as he answered the phone.
"Hi Dean, it Rory"
"Hi"
"Hey"
"Did you want something, I'm sorry but I was just about to go out"
"Oh, I'm sorry"
"Its okay, I'll call you later, but my mom want to take me to some mall in Hartford"
"Oh"
"I'll call you later, I have to go"
"Bye"
"Bye," Dean said as he hung up the phone and headed out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia stood inside a store looking at clothes. As she flipped throught the racks, she felt someone hug her, "Hey Julia," a voice said.
Julia turned around to see Tristin, "What are you doing here?"
"Shopping, what about you?"
"Shopping"
"With who?"
"By myself, what about you, with your mom?" Julia teased.
"Well yeah, but she's buying me stuff"
"My mother just gave me the money"
"Anyway, so I was wondering, what are you planning to do this weekend, because I was thinking we could go to the movies or something......"
"I don't know what I'm doing yet, but I'm sure as hell not spending it with you," Julia said as she left the store and headed for another.
As she left, Dean and his mother entered the store. Dean recognized Tristin and tried to stay away, but Tristin approched him, "You're Rory's boyfriend aren't you"
"Yeah, and your that jerk that likes her"
"Listen, I'm sorry about that, but if it helps I like someone else now"
"Who?"
"This girl that is new to my school"
"Isn't Rory the new girl?"
"Not anymore, another girl just started"
"Well stop bothering Rory then"
"Oh! You boys know each other!!" Tristin's mom exclaimed.
"Who are you?" Dean asked, looking at his own mother, who was standing by Tristin's.
"I'm your aunt, silly, but its okay, I haven't seen you in years----Tristin, you remember I told you that your cousin moved near by----I didn't know you boys knew each other, Dean sweety, you're not going to Chilton are you?"
"Um No"
"How do you know each other?" Dean's mother asked.
"Mom, you remember, I went to the dance there, with Rory"
"Oh Yes! Dean's girlfriend goes to Chilton," his mother said.
"Oh, well we will just have to get these two together this weekend," Tristin's mother said.
"Tristin is welcome to spend the weekend with us," Dean's mother replied.
Both of there mother's rambled on making plans.
"I can't believe you're my cousin," Dean said.
"Yeah----hey, don't tell Rory this"
"Why not?"
"Well she is friends with the new girl, and maybe you can talk her into going out this weekend, and tell her to bring a friend, and maybe she will bring Julia, but they won't do it if they know it is me"
"No, plus, Rory would bring her friend Lane, well that is if Lane's parents actually let her, they;re real strict"
"Please at least try, I'll promise not to ever bother Rory again, and I'll stop calling her Mary too"
"I guess I'll see what I can do," Dean sighed, not knowing why he was helping out Tristin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hey Rory," Julia said the next day at school.
"Hi Julia," Rory replied, kind of sad. She was upset over Dean.
"What's wrong?" Julia asked.
"Well, I called Dean last night, you know, my boyfriend, and he was going out, so he said that he would call me back, but he never did"
"He was probably just busy"
"I know, but what if he doesn't like me anymore?"
"I'm, sure thats not it"
"Sure thats not what?" Tristin asked as he approached Julia and Rory.
"Its none of your business Bible Boy," Julia said coldly.
"You don't have to be so mean about it"
"Yeah I do"
"Why"
"Beacause you're an ass"
"You didn't think I was last night at the mall"
"Yeah I did, hence the reason I walked away"
"What happened at the mall last night?" Rory asked.
"He hit on me" Julia replied.
"You are sooooo cocky!" he exclaimed.
"Good more reason for you to stay away from me!!!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hello?" Rory asked as she answered the phone.
"Hi Rory, its Dean, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you yesturday....but anyway, did you want someting"
"Yeah I wanted to go out Friday night"
"Yeah, I was actually going to ask you out then to, but I have a little problem, my cousin, he's spending the weekend here, and I have to hang out with him"
"Oh"
"I mean he's our age and all, so we can still hang out, but I was thinking could you bring a friend for him?"
"Sure, I'll ask Lane"
"I dunno, no offense Lane's nice and all but I don't think they would get along"
"Um okay, you know what, I can ask this new girl in school, Julia, she's really nice"
"Well why don't you find out if she can come and then call me back"
"Okay, and if she can't come, I'll just bring Lane?"
"Sure"
"Okay, bye," Rory said as she hung up, she went through her school thing until she found where she had written down Julia's number.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is Julia there?"
"Its me, who is it?"
"Its Rory"
"Oh hi!"
"Hey, anyway, I was wondering, do you want to do something tomorrow night, because, I was just talking to Dean and he wants to go out, but he has to hang out with his cousin, so he asked if I could bring a friend or something"
"Oh, well I think I can, its just that, would we be out late? Because I can't be driving all the way home to late, by the way, we got that house in Stars Hollow, we're moving in two weeks"
"Cool, if you want I can ask my mom if you can sleep over"
"Okay"
"Hold on," Rory said as she went to look for her mom. She found her mom in the living room, listening to Macy Gray. "Mom, can Julia sleep over tomorrow night, we're going out with Dean and his cousin, and her mom doesn't want her driving all the way home that late"
"Sure, do you know if her and Holly heard anything about that house yet?"
"Yeah, they got it, they're moving in two weeks"
"Do you know where it is exactly"
"No, but I better go get back to her"
Rory went back into her room and picked up the phone, "Jules? Ya there"
"Yeah, sorry"
"Its okay, antway, its alright if you sleep over"
"Cool"
"Well I have to call Dean back, so I will talk to you tomorrow"
"Wait, do you want me to bring my stuff to school, and I can just take you home from there"
"Sure, bye"
"Bye"
Rory called Dean back to tell him that everything was okay, and that Julia was coming. They made plans to meet by the Super Market, where Dean worked at 7 o'clock.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia stood in dark blue cords and a lighted blue sweater, "Does this look okay?"
"Yeah, what about me? How do I look?" Rory asked, as she stood there in a tight green sweater and jeans.
"Great, are you readt to go?"
"Yeah"
"Do you want me to drive?"
"No, we can just walk, we're really early and that will take up time"
The girls stood outside the supermarket waiting for Dean. While they were waiting Tristin saw them and went up to them, Dean had went inside to get his pay check.
"Hello Mary," he said.
"Uh!! Will you stop with the Biblical thing?! What are you doing here anyway?"
"I'm meeting people, but why does the Mary thing bother you so much anyway?"
"Maybe I'm Jewish!" Julia snapped.
"Whats going on?" Dean asked as he came outside.
"He was just bothing us," Rory explained, "You remember Tristin, from the dance, right?"
"Yeah, I know Tristin, my cousin Tristin that I never knew was me cousin until Wednesday"
"You've got to be kidding!" Julia said, "He is not my date! You are Dean right?" Julia asked.
"Yeah, and you must be Julia, shall we go?"
"With him?!"
"Come on," Tristin said, grabbing her hand, "This will be fun"
Julia and Tristin walked far behind Rory and Dean. Tristin was glad he was getting some alone time with Julia, but Julia just wanted to let Rory and Dean be alone.
"You're quiet," Tristin said, trying to make conversation.
"I don't want to talk with you"
"Oh.....so anyway, how was your day"
"Alright, what about you?"
"Great"
"Thats nice...."
The night pretty much droned on for Julia. Tristin kept trying to get somewhere, but Julia just didn't seem interested. At the end of the night Dean and Tristin got out of the car at Rory's house. Julia brought Tristin farther back.
"Where are we going?"he asked.
"Away, so we can let Rory and Dean kiss good night alone"
"Oh....well I had fun tonight"
"That makes one of us"
"Listen, I know you hate me and stuff, but you don't have to be so mean"
"Whatever"
Tristin then looked at her for a moment then kissed her. Julia at first tried to pull away, but she became lost in the kiss and when Tristin finally let her go she puased for a moment before finally realizing what happened, "Don't do that," she said, ver unconvincingly.
"You're not Jewish, are you?"
"No"
"Well, I knew that it was going to be you tonight"
"What?!"
Tristin just walked away, leaving her hanging, "C'mon Dean, lets go"
"All Come On!" Julia screamed at him as he left.
"Oh she wants me," Tristin said to Dean as they got into the car.
"What's worng?" Rory asked after they left.
"He knew it was going to be me tonight, he knew all along"
"I know"
"What?! Why did you do that! You know I hate Tristin"
"I didn't find out until later, Dean told me that his cousin and Lane wouldn't get along, so when Tristin showed up, I asked him why he said that, and he said that Tristin begged him to somehow get you to show up"
"So he likes me?" Julia asked as the went into house.
"Yeah, I guess so"
"Great! This is just what I need," Julia said as they entered Rory's room, she sat down on Rory's bed, "You know, now he think I like him too"
"Why would he think that? No offense but you were pretty awful to him"
"Well....he kissed me"
"When?!"
"Just now, right outside"
"Well you didn't kiss him back, did you?"
"No!"
"Then you have nothing to worry about"
"Well...maybe I did a little"
"What do you mean a little?"
"Okay! Okay! I totally and completely kissed him back!"
"Why?!"
"He was a good kisser..."Julia said in a little voice.
"What?!"
"He was a good kisser, I couldn't help myself, then afterward I realized who he was, then I kind of flipped"
"Then you should be fine"
"Okay, flipped is kind of a strong word, I told him not to do that anymore"
"But you yelled it, right?"
"No"
"Then how did you say it"
"In that small ity bity voice I use when I'm nervouse or scared"
"You're in trouble"
"I know, I'm totally screwed"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia made it a point to avoid Tristin and school, and watched out to make sure he wasn't around after school. They had talked a little, but Julia usually found ways to get away from him, until one Wednessday. Julia and Holly had just moved to Stars Hollow and it was the first day that Julia was driving Rory to and from school. Rory had to stay after school to work on a project, and Julia didn't feel like saying. She knew that Tristin would also be after school that day, so she told Rory that she would wait for her in the car.
Julia was sitting in her jeep for awhile before she saw anyone. She saw Tristin coming torwards her, and it was to late to get away from him. Tristin opened the door and climbed into the passenger seat, "So, Julia, how's it going?" he asked as he shut the door and got comfortable.
"Fine," Julia mumbled.
"Yeah I haven't talked to you in awhile, not since our date actually, so anyway, why ya here so late?"
"It wasn't a date, and I'm waiting for Rory, she had a project or something to do"
"Yeah, I had the same, and it definatly was a date--you kissed me, it was a date"
"I did not kiss you!"
"Well you at least kissed me back!"
"So what, it didn't mean anythin, I just got caught up in the moment"
"You mean the moment that happened during our date?"
"It wasn't a date!"
"Yeah, it was"
"No"
"I don't know why I bother," Tristin finally said. He then kissed her, and just like before, Julia could not pull herself away. When she kissed him it was like everything changed. FOr that moment, everything just seemed right.
Tristin pulled her to the back seat of the car, and began unbuttoning her blouse. Just as she began to remove his tie, Rory saw them, "What the heck is going on here?!?!" she exclaimed.
Julia looked up at Rory, then over at Tristin, she couldn't believe what just had happend, "Just go," was all she said to Tristin.
Tristin teasingly kissed the air in front of her face as he left. After he had went to his car and was gone, Julia burried her head in her hands.
"What happened?" Rory asked.
Julia looked up, "I don't know, we were just talking, and he kissed me again, and one thing lead to another"
"Do you like him?"
"No! Thats just it! I can't stand--I despise Tristin! But he has this way, that when he kissins me, he has this way of getting me all caught up in the moment, and I can't do anything about it--I can't stop it"
Rory sighed, she didn't know what to say. SHe could usually come up with some sort of advice, it wasn't always good, but it was something. She had no idea what to tell Julia, all she could say was, "Well I guess we better head home"
Julia nodded as she went back to the drivers seat. When Julia got home, all she could think about was Tristin. SHe didn't think about him in a good way, or a bad way, just a confuesed way.
"Hey Jules," Holly said as she entered her daughter's bedroom.
"Hey mom"
"Are you okay? You seem upset"
"I'm fine, I'm just tired"
"Oh---Well, anyway, I was just reading the Chilton news letter, and it says something about a Carneval fund raiser?"
"Yeah, there is going to be a carneval to raise money for the school"
"It say it encourages parents, faculty, and students to attend?"
"Yeah, they basically want everyone to go so they'll make money"
"Do you think Loralai would go to something like this, I mean I've been talking to her a lot lately, and it would be really nice to have there to talk to, and I just like carnevals..."
"I can ask Rory tomorrow if you want, or why don't you just call her"
"I feel dumb calling just to ask about that"
"Invite them to dinner or something"
"Dinner, thats a good idea, I'll tell them I have left overs I took home resturant, because I do! I do have left overs"
"Go for it, go make some friends"
"Okay, I'll do that, I will talk to you later"
Julia smiled as her mom left the room. SHe rolled over and tried to take a nap, naps always had away of clearing her mind, and helping her to solve her problems, problems such as Tristin, as crazy as that seemed.
"Julia! Jules! Wake up!" Holly said as she gently shook Julia to wake her up.
"What?"
"Rory and Loralai are here"
"Oh"
"Hey Julia," Rory said as she walked into her room.
As Holly left, Julia sat up, "Sorry about that, but when I wake up from a nap, I usually figure out how to solve all my problems"
"So what are you gonna do about Tristin?"
"No idea, it didn't work that time, this is more complicated then I thought"
"Yeah"
"So anyway, are you going to the carneval"
"Yeah, Dean, Lane, and some guy Lane knows are coming too"
"Oh great, I can finally meet Lane"
"Yeah, it will be fun"
"Rory?"
"Yes"
"Do you think that Tristin will try and hang out with us there?"
"Why would he?"
"Dean---I mean I know you said that Dean didn't like him, but since he's been leveing you alone, him and Dean are becoming friends, and he likes me, and if I'm hanging out with you guys and Dean is there, Tristin could use Dean as an excuse to hang out with us"
"I'll tell Dean to go be mean to Tristin or something"
"Would he really just listen to you like that?"
"I think so"
"You go girl! You've got him whipped!"
"Not really"
"Its nice to think so though"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So Dean, you'll try and keep him away from me?" Julia asked.
"I'll try, but if him mom is there he'll like be forced to hang out with us, his mom is really wierd and is convinced that we should be best friends," Dean replied.
"Sucks for you"
"No, Tristin's not that bad"
"He is when he likes you, he's like some sort of creepy stalker"
"Yeah," Rory laughed, "and he is worse to Jules then he was to me"
"Poor you," Lane said, "I've never met this guy, but I've heard stories"
"You don't want to meet him," Julia said.
"What is he like some scary gy that just follows you around?"
"Yes"
"Is he like really ugly and nasty too, because he sounds that way"
"No! Thats just the thing--he's really hot! He's just really obnoxious"
"That sucks"
They were only there for about ten minutes when they saw Tristin arrive with him mother. His mother ofcourse made a fuss over Dean, and was so glad that they could hang out together at the carneval. Nobody really minded except for Julia, and Rory did a little, because she knew how Julia felt.
"Dean can I talk to you for a sec?" Tristin asked as he took Dean to the side, "Has Julia said anything about me?"
"Yeah..."
"Was it good or bad, because she gives me these really mixed signals, and I'm so confuesed"
"I dunno, she was saying something like she thought you were really hot, but then in the same sentence she called you obnoxsious. Then the other day Rory was saying something about Julia being real confuesed because she didn't liek you, but thought you were a good kisser, and could stop herd=self from kissing you back, and how that will change thing for her at first, then she remebers how she hates you or something, I'm not sure it was confuesing"
"Thats okay, I think you told me enough, thank you so much"
"Sure"
As Dean and Tristin rejoined the group, Tristin went right up to Julia, "Hey Julia," he said.
"Hi"
"Looks like its all couples in this group tonight"
"And then there us"
"Oh yes, I forgot, you don't consider us a couple"
"No, I don't"
"You just think I'm really hot...and a great kisser, right?"
Julia's eniter facial expression changed into anger as soon as he spoke thos words, "Where did you here that?! WHo told you that?!"
"Its not my place to say"
"But it is my place to kick your sorry ass if you don't tell me!"
"I'll tell you what, I will tell you right before I leave tonight"
"WHy not now?!?"
"Because then people will be fighting, and that wouldn't be any fun"
"Well I'm pretty much garanteed that either way----did they tell you how I hated you and thought you were rude, and conseited, and an ass?!"
"Basically, but I only comprehend the good stuff," Tristin relied with a smile, as they all got in line for the ferris wheel.
"Hmmmmmm, let me see," Tristin said, "Couple and couple, even though we're not a couple, looks like we are riding together"
"You're really enjoying this aren't you?" Julia said as the got into a cart.
"Yes I am"
"You really enjoy seeing me all angry at you, don't you, you seriously get off on making me mad"
"Don't underestimate me Julia"
"What?"
"SOmeone also told me your weakness," Tristin said, right before he leaned in and kissed her. Julia wanted to pull away so badly, but she couldn't. Even while they were kissing she thought about what would happen if everyone could see them, but she still couldn't pull away, not until they were both interrupted by a jerking stop. There cart was one from reaching the top. In the cart above them they could see Rory and Dean making out, and in the cart before that, Lane and her boyfriend doing then same. Tristin didn't kiss her again on the Ferris Wheel though. Julia could not figure out, whether he was just trying to be nice, or if he knew how badly she wanted to kiss him again, and was just trying to torture her.
Throughout the entire night, Julia and Tristin fought, and Tristin would break those fights up by kissing her, but never when anyone was watching, because he truely believed that if Julia knew someone was watching, she would have the streagnth to pull away.
As they were leaving, Tristin grabbed Julia, "Dean told me everything," he whispered to her. Julia paused for a sencond then ran up ahead and verbally attacked Dean.
"You told him! You told him everything! I mean not only the things I said, but the things Rory told you too!! WHy would you do that!!"
Dean shrugged not knowing what to say, "I didn't mean to, but he was asking me so many questions, and it kinda just slipped out"
Julia groaned and went back and talked with Lane and her new boyfriend.
"Why did you tell him all those things?" Rory asked.
"Because, she likes him, its so obvviouse that she likes him too, if I thought for one second that she didn't I wouldn't have said anything"
"I know she likes him, but you shouldn't have said anything until she figures that out. I mean I know she likes him, and you know she likes him, but she doesn't know that, she hasn't figuired it our yet. SHe's ambivolent to this whole thing right now"
"I'm sorry"
"Do you think she's mad at me now too?"
"Why would she be angry with you?"
"For telling you all that stuff"
"I don't know, she seemed to be only angry with me"
"Well I'mm gonna talk to her to make sure"
On the way home Rory sat in the very back with Julia so they could talk.
"You're not mad at me, are you? For telling Dean?"
"No, it had nothing to do with you, I told you and you told Dean, I didn't care if Dean knew, but I cared if Tristin knew, but I thought that was pretty common sense"
"The only reason he did it was because he thought you like Tristin"
"WHy would he think that?!"
"Well..."
"Do I really act like I like him?---Because I don't"
"Sometimes you do"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That monday Julia again tried to avoid Tristin, but it was a lot harder then before. Tristin really tought that Julia like him back, and was more forward, and more flirty.
"Hey cutie," he said as he sat next to her in the lunchroom. Rory wasn't there yet so Julia had been sitting alone.
"Go away Tristin," Julia said.
"So did you have fun at the carneval? I know I sure did"
"Again, that makes one of us"
"Well, I'm going to go sit over there with my friends now, but I'll catch you later," Tristin said. He then kissed her on the cheek and left just as Rory got to the table.
"What did he want?" Rory asked.
"I dunno, me?"
Rory laughed a little.
That day, in their last period of the day, Julia got called to the office. Confuesed, she took her thing and went up there.
"You have a phone call," they said.
"Hello?" Julia said as she took the phone.
"Julia----ugh, I don't know how to say this..."
"Just tell me mom"
"Okay, my mother, she had a heart attack, she's in the hospital"
"Grandma?! Is she alright?!"
"They're not sure, listen, come to the hospitalk after school"
"Can't I come now?"
"The days almost over, you might as well stay"
"But I have to see if she's okay!"
"You can't see her right now anyway, I have to go, bye,"Holly said as she quickly hung up the phone.
Julia hung up as well and went to her locker, then waited outside for Rory as always. Rory always had some sort of thing to work on after school.
Tristin saw Julia sitting on the steps, crying and sat down next to her.
"Julia? What's wrong?" he asked.
"Go away"
Tristin didn't know wht to do, so he began to kiss her, but for the first time she was able to push him away, she was just to upset, "Please, leave me alone," she said.
"Is everything okay?"
"No"
"What's wrong, please tell me, it always helps to tell people"
"My Grandma had a heart attack, she's in the hospital, they just told me now"
"I'm sorry," Tristin said, making her stand up so he could give her a hug. He kept her in his arms and told her about how his grandmother had died the year before.
Julia felt so safe in his arms, she had never seen this nice, sweet, and considerate side of Tristin before.
When Rory came out, Julia left him, without saying goodbye to Tristin. On the way to the hospital Julia explained to Rory everything that was going on.
Julia missed the next three days of school. Everyday she was gone, Tristin would aske Rory about her.
"Is Julia alright?" Tristin asked that Thursday.
"I don't know"
"Rory, do you think you could give me her phone number?"
"No, she probably wouldn't want me to give it to you, and even if I did, she wouldn't talk to you"
"How do you know"
"I've called her everyday, and everyday her mom tells me that she doesn't want to speak to anyone, I think her and her Grandma were really close"
"Oh"
Rory then wrote something down, "Here," she said, handing him the phone number, "I dunno, maybe it's worth a try"
That day, after school Tristin called Julia's house, but he only got the answering machine. He didn't leave a message. Holly and Julia had been out, taking her grandmother home from the hospital. They returned her home with her grandfather.
The next day, Friday, Julia returned to school. She handed in all the work she had missed as soon as she got there. Tristin didn't speak to her until after school when he saw her waiting by her car.
"Hey," he said.
"What do you want?" Julia asked coldly, acting like herself again.
"What?!"
"What do you mean, what? You're the one who said hi to me!"
"I said hi, you don't have to be so mean"
"Then don't talk to me and you won't have to worry about me being mean!"
"God Julia!" Tristin said angrily, "I just don't get you! You'll go and makeout with me, then your mean again, I treat you so nicely, I'm so good to you, and yet you still hate me?! What is your problem?! You know what! I give up! I really really liked you, but I'm gonna move on now! Because you are not worth it! You know I am grounded this weekend for always being home so late after school?! You know why I stay late?! Because I know you always do! And monday especially, I told you all I went through with my own Grandma! I never told anyone that! But you don't care, so neither do I! You know eventually you're gonna realize tht you like me too but it will be to late. I will have moved on, but you, you won't be able to move on because you'll regret the fact that you never took the chance when I liked you. But me, I'll get over you, maybe not right away, but I'll get over you, but I doubt you'll ever get over me, you know what, you're not even worth it."
Julia paused for a moment and just looked at Tristin, "Tristin," she finally said, "You've confuesed me, a lot. At first I didn't like you, then you kissed me, on our date, you kissed me, and after that, I didn't know, I didn't know how I felt, so you kissed me again and again. I was still confuesed, it was like I like doyu but didn't want to, I still don't even know what it was. But I think I finally know how I feel about you," Julia said taking a deep breath, "I---you know what, words can't even describe it, so I'm just gonna pull a you here," Julia said as she leaned in and kissed him. It was the first time Julia had initiated a kiss with him, and it felt so good to both of them.
As Rory approached them, and saw them kissing, she just cleared her throat, so they would know she was there. As they pulled away, she exspected Julia to hit Tristin and tell him to leave, like she always had. Tristin was exspecting the same thing. But instead, Julia smiled at Tristin and moved in close, "She you monday," she smiled as she then went to the car.
As the girls got in Rory looked at Julia, "What's going on?" she asked.
"I like Tristin," Julia said with a smile.
"Since when?"
"Since always, I just didn't want to admitt it to myself"
That night, Julia was planning on staying home all by herself. She was suppose to hang out with her mother, but her mother had recieved a last minute date. Julia was in her room when the phone rang.
"Hello?" Julia asked, as she picked up the phone.
"Hello, Julia?" Tristin asked.
"Yeah, who is this?"
"Tristin"
Julia smiled, "How did you get my number?"
"Rory--but anyway, I was wondering if you wanted to go to a movie or something tonight"
"I thought you were grounded"
"I was, but I explained to my mom why I was always after school so late, and that tongiht I would really like to go out with my girlfriend, and she said it was okay, and that I wouldn't be punished"
"Girlfriend?"
"Well...if you want"
"Yeah, I want to"
"So about that movie?"
"I can't"
"Oh"
"Well I was suppose to just stay here and me and my mom were going to watch a video that we rented, but she got a last minute date and had to take my car, because hers had to go to the shop today, so I really can't get a ride"
"Oh, well maybe another time..."
"You're welcome to come over here, I mean I still have a movie rented, and I'm sure my mom wouldn't want it to go to waist"
"What movie?"
"Empire Records"
"Sounds like a date"
"I guess it does"
After they hung up, Julia fell back onto her bed. She was so gald that he was coming over, and that she was his girlfriend. She really did like him a lot.
That night Tristin came over and they cuddled ont the couch, and watched the movie. It was a perfect night, and the were both very happy that they were now together.
