Dedication- Part 2

It was her first day of summer, so Rory was able to
sleep in. When she finally woke up she headed towards
the kitchen in search of coffee. While she poured
herself a cup, she noticed a note that was on the
refrigerator.

**************************************************
Rory,
I know I said today was going to be a fun-filled no
Chilton day, but I think our festivities are going to
have to hold out until later tonight. I left money on
the counter so that you could eat at Luke's. I'll be
back tonight and we can have a Gilmore Girls movie
night. Have a great day, See ya later.

Mom
***************************************************

Rory set down the note and continued drinking her
coffee, thinking of what she could do today. She
remembered that Stars Hollow High didn’t let out
'till
tomorrow, so she couldn't call Lane or Dean... or
even Jess.
She grabbed her coffee and a box of pop tarts and
headed for the couch. Flipping through the channels,
she began to laugh when she came to a Wonder Years
marathon. She used to love that show, so she decided
to watch it.

About 3 hours later the theme song was giving her a
headache, so she got up and went to her room. It was
times like these that she wished she had
something to do. Even Chilton homework. She loved
summer, but without any of her friends or her mother,
she was incredibly bored. She flipped on her radio and

began to listen to the song that was playing. That's
when she
remembered what happened last night. The dedication.

Immediately, she fished a piece of paper and a pen out

of her backpack and started to write. She didn't know
why she was writing to him... or what she was even
going to write, but she just felt like she needed to.

**************************************************
Tristan,
I know you're probably getting tons of fan mail from
all
your groupies at Chilton, and you probably won't even
have time to read this, but I just wanted to write
and see how Military school was going for you. Chilton

just let out yesterday, thank God. Finals were
excruciating, as usual, and it didn't help to have
Paris' eyes burning a whole through my back the
entire time. Do you even take finals in military
school? I don't really know how that works. You know,
I find it a lot easier to talk to you without you
being able
to talk back. I know your probably thinking, "Why is
she writing me a letter on the first day of summer?
Can't stay away from me can you Mary?" And then you
would add one of your cocky smirks. Well, don't let
your ego burst. My best friend Lane doesn’t get out
of school until tomorrow, and my mom, who is usually
my entertainment, had to work. Oh, and your leaving
before the play caused Paris to play Romeo... which
means we had to kiss. And to make it worse, it’s in
the yearbook, so I wanted to thank you for that. Well,

I’m going to end this letter; I don’t really have
much
else to say.

Rory
P.S.- Thanks for the dedication Louis.
***************************************************

When she finished with the letter, she called
Tristan's house, and one of the maids there gave her
his address in North Carolina. She put the letter in
an envelope and placed a stamp in the corner.
It was already 2:30, so she decided that she would go
mail the letter and then wait for Dean and Lane to get

out of school so that they could entertain her until
her mother came home.

5 DAYS LATER

It was Saturday. Rory was sitting around the living
room reading her latest book, when her mother came
dancing into the room.

Rory got a letter! Rory got a letter! Lorelai
jumped up and down before finally collapsing on the
couch next to Rory.

So Rory, who do you know in North Carolina? Lorelai
asked her.

Um... nobody. Rory lied.

Your lying! Lorelai yelled. I know who it is! I
know who it is!

Fine, who? Rory questioned.

It’s the evil Chilton boy isn’t it. The one that you
kissed, and Dean got in a fight with, and then you
were going to do the play with... before he got
shipped
of to... Where could it be? North Carolina!
she stated excitedly.

So, you actually do listen to what I say? Rory said.

Don't change the subject! Lorelai whined. "Why is
Tristan sending you a letter from military school?
You two weren't exactly the closest of friends as I
remember.

Rory grabbed the letter from Lorelai's hand and ran
into her room and shut the door.

Rory! Lorelai shouted. “That's not fair! I want an
explanation! I'm holding hostage all coffee until you
tell me what happened!!

Rory sat down on her bed and tore open the letter.

****************************************************
Mary,
You were definitely the last person I expected to hear

from. And your wrong... You're the first person to
send
me anything down here. Not even my parents care how
I’m doing. Unfortunately, military school does not
let out for the summer. They think that going here
all year round will somehow make us, as they say,
establish some character. I’m sorry about you having
to
kiss Paris. I wish I had been there to have seen
it. Actually I wish I had been there to kiss you
myself...
Then we could have tested the crying theory. Thanks
for writing. Really. I know it was out of sheer
boredom on your part, but it’s really nice to hear
from someone. And I agree with you... It’s easier
talking to you when you're not here either. Oh, how’s
your boyfriend?

Tristan
P.S.- I didn't think that you would actually hear
that.
****************************************************

Rory didn't want to come out of her room yet and
explain why Tristan was writing to her, so she sat
down and began to write him another letter.

***************************************************

Tristan,
I'm sorry that you haven't heard from your parents or
anyone else. I know you won't cry when you read
this, but Dean and I broke up. I don't really know
what happened. We became more like brother and sister
and less like boyfriend and girlfriend. It's a good
thing because now I have a great friend. So my mom is
stomping outside my room because she wants to know why

I'm getting letters from North Carolina. She even
threatened to withhold coffee, but I think that she
will regret that when she realizes that she doesn't
know how to use the coffee maker yet. So military
school doesn't let out for the summer. That's
horrible. How does the whole military school thing
work anyway? Is it different from regular school?
Well, I should go, my mother is about to barge into my

room.

Rory
****************************************************

After Rory had come out of her room, she told her
mother about the dedication that she heard on the
radio, and that she had written Tristan a letter
first.
Lorelai was relieved that Rory had told her, because
she
had gone a whole 45 minutes without coffee.

A FEW DAYS LATER

Rory walked in her front door with Lane and Dean close

behind. Lane and Dean had been arguing about who was
better: Beck or the Foo Fighters. Rory had heard
enough, so they decided that they would go back to her

house and watch a movie. When they walked into the
kitchen, Rory noticed a letter from her mom and an
envelope next to it.

Ror-
Went out with Sookie. Be back late.
Mom
Oh, and you got another letter from evil boy.

What is it? Lane and Dean asked.

A note from my mom. She's out with Sookie and won't
be back 'till late. Rory told them.

No, who's the letter from? Lane asked.

Nobody. Rory quickly answered.

Well, I doubt the letter is from nobody. Dean said.

Well it is.

Who actually sends letters anymore? I mean there's
phones and e-mail and pagers, and instant messages.
Lane said. It’s probably somebody old, and they don't
know how to use computers.

Or maybe you won that sweepstakes thing where someone
comes to your door... Wait, they wouldn't send a
letter, they would just come Lane babbled on.

Or maybe it's somebody in military school who can't
use a computer or phone? Rory finally said. She knew
that she would have to tell them sometime.

Military school? both Lane and Dean said together.

Wait. It's that accountant guy isn't it? Dean said.

Tristan? Lane asked.

Can we just go watch the movie? Rory said, not
wanting to talk about it anymore.

Fine, but I want to hear more later. Lane said.

They went into the living room and watched a movie
that they had rented. After it was done Lane went home

for dinner, and Dean went to work.
When they were finally gone, Rory grabbed the letter
and ran into her room. She sat down on her bed and
tore open the envelope.

***************************************************
Rory,
So you're a coffee addict... I'll have to remember
that
if I ever get back to Hartford. Military school is
like a much stricter Chilton, with none of the girls.
Plus, you actually have to wake up at 5 in the morning

and run miles. I know, I deserved it. I should have
listened to you that day when you tried to tell me to
stay away from Duncan and Bowman. I'm such an idiot
sometimes. Well I'm sure you know that already, seeing

that I tormented you all last year and insisted on
calling you Mary. I want to apologize for everything I

did. I really want us to be friends Rory. (See I know
your name.) If there is one thing I've learned from
this whole experience, it's that you should hold on to

your true friends.. lol.. ones that don't want you to
help them break into a safe. I have to go... dinner
call. I hope to hear from you.
Tristan
P.S. I am really sorry to hear about you and Dean.
*****************************************************

‘Wow’ Rory thought. ‘Maybe he really has changed.’
