Dedication- Part 3
Never in Rory's wildest dreams did she think that she
would become friends with Tristan Dugray. But that’s
exactly what happened. They wrote letters to each
other throughout the summer. They talked about
everything. Tristan learned about Rory's life in Stars
Hollow, and she in turn learned about his life in
Hartford. They were able to talk about anything. He
knew more about her than most people, besides Lorelai
and Lane of course.
Tristan had changed in Military school. The things
that he took for granted back in Hartford, he didn’t
care about anymore. He didn’t care about his car, or
his huge house, or the fact that he didn’t have to
lift a finger for anything. Everything was given to
him on a silver platter. The only reason he would ever
want to return to Hartford was so that he could see
Rory. He loved the relationship they had formed.
He still had feelings for her in a more-than-friends
kind of way, but he was happy that they could talk to
each other. He looked forward to the days when he
could just sit on his bed and read the strange
happenings that Rory had written about in Stars
Hollow.
The summer was almost over, and Rory didn’t want it to
end. She didn’t want to return to Chilton to deal with
Paris and the rest of them. She wanted to just stay
home with her mother and have water balloon fights in
the day, and Gilmore movie nights at night. But she
knew it had to end sometime.
“Hey, mom! I’m home! Rory yelled as she walked in her
front door.”
“Hey, Ror! How’s Lane?”
“Good. She said Korean bible school wasn’t as bad as
she thought it was going to be.”
“Guess what?” Lorelai asked.
“What?”
“Guess!!” Lorelai whined.
“Um.. you actually learned how to cook in the hour an
a half that I was gone. And there is a 9 course meal
sitting on the table right now?”
“No, but there’s a letter from Tristan sitting on the
table right now.”
Rory ran to the table and grabbed the letter. Then she
went back to her room so that she could read it.
********************************************************
Rory,
How’s it going in Stars Hollow? I know it took me a
long time to write back this time. We just finished
with our end of the year finals. I talked to my dad
and
he’s flying down next week on business, and he said
that he might come and visit me. It’s been a year and
all he can say is “I don’t know if I can make it
son...
but I’ll try.” It’s parents weekend. I’m guessing that
all the other kids' parents are actually happy to see
them, and my parents see it as another burden that
they need to try and squeeze into their social
calendars. Anyway, enough about that. Is Lane back
from Bible school yet? How are she and Henry doing?
Tell him I said hi if you get a chance. So...
Chilton’s
starting up again soon, right? Your probably excited!
lol. I’m kidding. I know you're dreading the whole
Paris
thing, but you never know, maybe she got a life over
the summer. I’m just sorry that I won’t be there with
you this year. Wow, I never thought that I would
actually say I wanted to go back to Chilton. Well I
should probably go... dinner call. Oh, Rory, I just
want to say that I’m so glad that we’re friends. It
means a lot to me, really.
Tristan
********************************************************
She finished reading the letter and set it down beside
her. She took out a piece of paper and started to
write him back.
********************************************************
Tristan,
I was beginning to think that you forgot about me. How
did your finals go? I’m really sorry about you
parents.
I hope that they do end up making it down to your
family
weekend. As for Chilton, I can’t wait for those evil
stares to start up again. I was beginning to miss
wanting to hide at the site of Paris. I really wish
you were going to be there. Don’t you think that it’s
a little ironic that when we finally become friends,
you're not even here anymore? I don’t know... but I
miss
you Tristan. I am so glad that we became friends too.
I really don’t know what I would do without you.
You're
one of my best friends. Do you think you’ll be coming
home for a visit anytime? I really want you to meet my
mother. You’d like her. Well, speaking of my mother,
she’s throwing a no-coffee fit right now. I better get
her to Luke’s. ‘ll talk to you later.
Rory
********************************************************
A week and a half passed by, and Rory was beginning to
worry about Tristan. She usually got a letter every
few days. At the most it was a week. And now there was
nothing...
“Rory, hurry up! We need to go to Luke’s!”
Lorelai yelled.
“I’m coming!” she yelled back.
LUKE’S
“Hey Luke. Hi Jess. And how are we today?” Lorelai
asked as she sat down at the counter.
“Well, aren't we in a good mood today” Jess said.
“She’s sucking up so I’ll give her coffee. It’s not
going to work” Luke told him.
“But I NEED it Luke!”
“No, you don’t” Luke argued.
“Well, I might not NEED it, but Rory does!”
“Why? What's wrong with her?”
“She’s been in a bad mood all week” Lorelai said.
“Oh, is she sad about having to go back to Chilton?”
Luke asked, while he poured them some coffee.
“Nope”
“Then what is it?”
“She didn’t get her weekly letter from Tristan.”
“Aah” Luke said as if he understood.
“You two know that I’m sitting right here don’t you?”
They both looked over at Rory.
“And I’m not in a bad mood” she said.
“Come on, you run to check the mail, and when
nothing's
there, you go and sulk in your room for an hour. I
think I would call that a bad mood.” Lorelai stated.
“Fine, you win. I’m in a bad mood. I just want to know
what happened with Tristan. That parent weekend thing
was a couple days ago, and I’m worried that his
parents didn’t show up.”
A FEW NIGHTS LATER.
Rory sat on her bed, starting to write a letter to
Tristan to see if he was alright, when she heard the
DJ on the radio again.
“We have a special dedication tonight. This is to Mary
in Stars Hollow, from Louis in Hartford. Enjoy.”
Rory was shocked, and dropped the pen that she was
writing with. Then she began to smile as she listened
to the song.
You changed my face, I think I like it better now
It doesn't matter anyhow, 'cause that's the way it is
You said hello, where the hell you been?
I said I feel like I've been off to war, and I may
never be the same again
I made my bed, but now I can't sleep at night
I'm tossin and turnin you know, you know it ain't
right
I'd love to beg, see, but I'm just too proud
And I don't even know what to say, so I'm thinking out
loud
And when you dream 17
I ain't there, so I don't care
'Cause in all my dreams, I'm 23
And she's the girl right next to me
See that girl right next to me
I lie in my bed, you're running through my head
Going over and over and over, the things that you said
I'm caught in the trap, I'll run like hell right back
to you
'Cause I'm sober with you and you know it beats
drinking alone
And when you dream 17
I ain't there, so I don't care
'Cause in all my dreams, I'm 23
And she's the girl right next to me
See that girl right next to me
And when you dream 17
I ain't there, so I don't care
'Cause in all my dreams, I'm 23
And she's the girl right next to me
See that girl right next to me
“I can’t believe it!” Rory said as a smile crept
across her face.
“He’s back.”
