Lorelai's New Boyfriend
by: Gemini0123@aol.com
TUESDAYLorelai had just gotten out of her business class at Hartford State, and was heading towards the coffee shop across the street like she did after every class. She noticed a man standing in front of the shop talking on his cell phone. He was wearing a business suit, and was extremely cute and very buff. He looked to be about 26 years old. Lorelai smiled at him as she walked by, and he smiled back. He watched her walk into the shop.
Lorelai walked to the counter, sat down on a stool, and ordered a coffee. A few seconds later, the man walked in and sat next to her. She glanced his way and saw him staring at her.
"Hey," he said, smiling.
She smiled back and said, "Hi."
He extended a hand towards her and said, "I'm Paul Conner."
She shook his hand and said, "Lorelai Gilmore."
"Wow, Lorelai. What a beautiful name."
"Thank you," she said, smiling. She turned back to her coffee and took a sip.
"So, do you live around here?" he asked.
She turned back to face him. "Actually, no I don't. Do you?"
"Yes, I live a few blocks from here."
"Great." She smiled, and turned to face forward again.
"So, do you come here often?" he asked.
"Yes."
"But you don't live around here?"
"Nope."
"So do you work around here?"
"Wow, you ask a lot of questions," she said, turning to look at him.
"Yes I do. But only to the women I find completely fascinating."
"So, Paul, how about I ask you some questions?"
"Sure, go ahead."
"Do you have a job?"
"Yes."
"What do you do?"
"I work at the Hartford Bank."
"Do you have a car?"
"Yes."
"What kind of gasoline do you use?"
"Super Unleaded."
"Do you have a wife?"
"No."
"Girlfriend?"
"No."
"Boyfriend?"
He laughed. "No!"
"Any pets?"
"Yes."
"Do you find my questions annoying?"
"No."
"Not at all?"
"Nope."
"Hmm." She smiled and took a sip of coffee.
"Are you done?" he asked her.
"Yes."
"Good. So now I would like to invite you to dinner." He smiled.
"As nice as that sounds, I don't usually go out with guys I just met."
"Okay. I understand." He took out a business card and placed it in front of her. "Here's my card if you change your mind."
She smiled and said, "Thanks. Bye."
"Goodbye Lorelai."
Paul walked away and Lorelai turned around and watched him, smiling to herself. She picked up the card and read it, then she placed it in her purse.
`He seems nice,' she thought. `And I haven't gone out with anyone since Max and I broke up last month. And wow, is he cute! Hmm. Maybe I will give him a call.' Lorelai finished her coffee, and headed home.
THURSDAY
After her business class, Lorelai walked to the coffee shop. She had called Paul yesterday and they had talked on the phone for awhile, talking about work and other random things. She told him about her business class and about Stars Hollow and how she loved the close knit feeling of small towns. Then she told him when she would be at the coffee shop if he wanted to get together for coffee. He said that he would definitely be there.
Lorelai walked into the coffee shop and looked around for him. She saw him sitting at the counter. She expected him to be in a business suit again, but this time he was wearing jeans and a T-shirt, and Lorelai took note of how his shirt showed off his remarkably impressive biceps. She sat down next to him and said, "Hi Paul."
He turned to look at her and smiled. "Hey Lorelai Gilmore. How are you?"
"I'm great. How are you?"
"Much better now that you're here." He smiled a bright smile and Lorelai noticed how white his teeth looked. They seemed almost too perfect. `Wow, is there nothing wrong with this man?' she thought.
The waitress walked over and Lorelai ordered a coffee. "So, I guess you didn't have work today?" she asked, gesturing towards his outfit.
"No, today's my day off. So how was your class?"
"Great. I learned a lot."
"Oh good. That's great." He paused. "So you know what I think?"
"Um, that Regis has gotten a little cocky since they started putting that Millionaire show on 4 times a week?"
Paul laughed. "No, but I know what you mean. But what I was thinking is that this is going pretty well and so maybe we could go out for that dinner sometime."
"Yeah, I would like that." She smiled. "But Paul. First, I just want to tell you something."
"Okay. What?"
"I have a kid."
"You have a kid?"
"Yes."
"But you're not married, are you?"
"No! I've never been married. But I do have a kid."
"Okay, well that's fine. I like kids."
"Okay, good. I don't want my daughter to meet you just yet, though. She doesn't usually meet the guys I date so soon."
"Okay. So what's her name?'
"Her name's Rory."
"Wow, a lot of pretty names in your family, huh?"
"Yes, we're very into pretty names." She smiled.
"So, about that dinner. Is tomorrow good for you?"
"Um, what's tomorrow? Friday? No, actually, Saturday would be better for me."
"Oh, okay. Do you like Italian?"
Lorelai smiled. "It's my favorite."
"Great. I know a great place a few blocks from here."
"Okay. Well, if it's around here then it would be stupid for you to drive all the way out to Stars Hollow to pick me up. Maybe we could meet there."
"Well, I don't mind driving all the way out there. I'd love to see this Stars Hollow that you've told me all about." He smiled.
"Okay, well, I'll give you directions."
Lorelai ripped out a piece of paper from her school notebook and wrote down how to get to her house. She handed it to him. Then she said, "Oh wait," and grabbed it back. She wrote her phone number on it, then handed it back. "Just in case you get lost or something, give me a call."
He smiled. "Okay, Lorelai, I'll pick you up around 7 on Saturday, okay?"
"Great."
He stood up and said, "Great. I'll see you soon." He walked out of the shop. Lorelai sat on the stool smiling.
SATURDAY
Rory went to Luke's for dinner so her mom would be alone when her date arrived. At the Gilmore house, Lorelai was putting on her coat while waiting for Paul. She walked over to the mirror to check herself. She checked her watch. 7:05. "Hmm. He's late," she said aloud to her reflection. "That's good. Being overly punctual is somewhat annoying."
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. She went to open the door and saw Paul standing there. He was wearing a dark gray suit. He looked very neat and proper, and as usual, very cute. Lorelai smiled at him.
"I'm sorry I'm a little late," he said.
"Well, that's okay. A girl can always use a few extra minutes to make herself beautiful."
He looked her up and down and said, "I'm sure it doesn't take you very long to get beautiful. You look fabulous."
She smiled and said, "Thanks. So do you."
"Thanks. Are you ready to go?"
"Yup, let's go."
Lorelai grabbed her purse, followed him onto the porch, and shut the door. She looked at his car. Her eyes widened slightly as she saw a very shiny and new-looking black BMW sitting next to her jeep. `Wow,' she thought. `He must be pretty successful at that bank to have a car like this.' He drove to the restaurant, and they chatted about movies and music and all sorts of things.
They pulled up to the restaurant and walked inside, where they were seated at a very private, quiet booth. After a few minutes of menu scanning, they both ordered their meals.
While awaiting the food, they conversed. Paul told her about what he did at the bank, and Lorelai was very surprised to find out that he had only been working there for a few months. `He sure has a nice car for only working a few months. He must come from a wealthy family,' she thought. A few minutes later, their food was brought out. They ate dinner, and then they walked to Paul's car. As Paul started the car, he asked her, "So, we're right near my apartment. Want to come over for some coffee?"
Lorelai smiled and said, "Maybe some other time."
"Okay. I'll take you home then," he said, smiling.
"Great. Thanks."
Paul drove her home. He asked her about going out to a movie next week. Lorelai said she would love to, and that she would call him during the week. They pulled up to Lorelai's house. Paul walked her to the front door.
"So Paul, thanks for a great evening. I had a wonderful time."
"So did I. I had a lot of fun."
Lorelai smiled and they slowly leaned towards each other. They kissed, a slow passionate kiss. Lorelai pulled back and said, "So I'll call you about that movie."
"Okay. Good night."
"Night." She turned and walked inside the house. She shut the door and leaned against it for a few seconds with her eyes closed, smiling. She went into Rory's room and found her lying on her bed, listening to her headphones and reading a magazine.
Lorelai walked over and tapped her on the shoulder. Rory looked up.
She smiled and took off her headphones. "Hey, how was your date?"
"Oh, it was great. We ate at this really good Italian place in Hartford. Really good food. How was your night?"
"It was good. I ate at Luke's, then I went to Lane's for a bit, and then I came home and hung out. Not too bad."
"Good. Well, I'm going to bed. Good night." She gave Rory a kiss on the cheek as Rory said, "Night Mom."
ONE WEEK LATER
SATURDAY
Rory had just left to spend the night at Lane's house, and Lorelai was getting her hair ready for her movie date with Paul. The doorbell rang. Lorelai answered it, and invited Paul to come in while she finished her hair. He waited on the couch for a few minutes before she finally came downstairs and said, "Okay. I'm ready."
"Wow, it was worth the wait," he said, smiling.
"Thanks."
He stood up and walked toward the front door. She followed him, stopping at the coat rack.
"So you wore comfy walking shoes right?" she asked.
"Yup. So we're really walking to the movie theater? You can't walk to anything in Hartford."
"Yes, it's only two blocks away." She put on her coat and grabbed her purse as Paul held open the front door. They started walking to the movie theater. Paul asked her, "So tell me something I don't know about you."
"Um, I used to be a man."
"Very funny." He paused. "You ARE kidding right?"
"Yes, I'm kidding.' She smiled. "Well, I sometimes have a recurring dream where I'm standing on a dog while trying to juggle onions while people throw rocks at me, and I'm crying, but I don't know if its because of the onions or because of the rocks."
"Wow. That is certainly something I never would have guessed about you."
She smiled and said, "Your turn."
"Okay." He thought for a moment. "Well, one time I took this girl on a date, and when it was over, I walked her to her front door and as I leaned in to give her a goodnight kiss, she sneezed all over my face."
Lorelai laughed. "Ew! I hoped you've washed it since then."
He smiled and nodded, and she leaned up and kissed his cheek. They had reached the theater, so they went inside and bought popcorn, and then they settled into the seats in the back row.
About 30 minutes into the movie, Lorelai reached down and laced her fingers through Paul's. He turned and smiled at her, and leaned over to kiss her. She kissed him back eagerly and aggressively. She pulled away and whispered, "You don't really want to watch the rest of the movie do you?"
He smiled and shook his head no. She whispered, "Good. Let's go to my place."
They practically ran back to Lorelai's house. They pushed open the front door and threw off their coats. Lorelai ran up the steps and Paul was right behind her. She stopped at the top of the steps and turned around. He kissed her, first on her lips and then moved down her neck. He started unbuttoning her shirt. She walked backward into the bedroom while he continued undoing her shirt. She fell onto the bed on her back, pulling Paul on top of her. . . . . . .
The next morning Lorelai woke up with her head on Paul's chest and his arm around her. She stared at him for a few minutes before he finally woke up. He smiled when he saw her and gave her a kiss. "Morning," he said.
"Morning."
They lay in bed for a few more minutes silently, then Paul said, "Hey, I thought you had a kid."
"I do. She spent the night at her friend's house. Oh, what time is it?"
Paul reached over and picked up the blue fuzzy clock and checked it. "It's 7:15."
"Oh, okay. She won't be home until 9."
Paul put the clock down and started to get up. "I should get going. I have a lot of errands to run today."
"Okay." Lorelai stood up and put on her robe while Paul gathered his clothes, which were strewn all over the room. He took them into the bathroom to get dressed, and Lorelai walked downstairs and turned on the coffee maker. A few minutes later Paul came down the steps and said, "Well, I had a really great time last night."
She smiled and said, "Me too."
"I'll call you later," he said.
"Okay. Bye." She gave him a long goodbye kiss.
"Bye," he said, smiling.
She sat down at the kitchen table as she watched him walk toward the front door. She rested her elbows on the table and her chin in her hands, and she smiled as she thought about her night with Paul.
TUESDAY
Lorelai walked towards the Hartford coffee shop after her business class. She had arranged to meet Paul there, and was very excited when she saw his BMW out front. She started to pull open the door when she peered through the window and saw Paul at the counter talking to Max Medina. She couldn't believe it. While her breakup with Max had been a friendly one, she didn't want him to see her with another guy. It would be a little uncomfortable. She waited outside the coffee shop behind a tree so he wouldn't see her when he came out. When he had finally left, she walked inside and sat down next to Paul. "Hey."
He turned and said, "Oh hey!" He gave her a kiss. She ordered a coffee in a carry out cup, and they went outside and sat on a bench.
"So who were you talking to in there at the counter?"
"Oh, that was Mr. Medina. He was my English Lit teacher at Chilton Prep."
"You went to Chilton?" Lorelai asked, surprised.
"Yeah, you've heard of it?"
"Uh, yeah, Rory goes there."
"Rory? Your Rory?"
"Yes, my Rory."
"Isn't she like 2 years old?"
"Um, no, she's like 16."
"Oh wow." He paused. "So you had a kid when you were like 11? Isn't that impossible?"
She laughed. "I had a kid when I was 16. I'm 32 years old Paul. How old did you think I was?"
"You're 32? Wow. You do not look 32. I thought you were like 27."
She smiled and said, "Really? I look 27?"
"Yeah. Totally." He smiled.
"Thanks."
"You're welcome. How old do I look?"
"Well, the first time I saw you I thought you were 26."
He raised his eyebrows. "Really? I can pass for 26?"
She smiled and nodded. "How old are you really?"
"Oh, I just turned 19."
Lorelai's smile quickly faded. Her eyes widened and her mouth dropped open.
"Tell me you just said `I just turned ninety'," she said.
"What? No, I said nine TEEN."
She stared at him in disbelief. "There's no way you are 19."
"Really. I'm 19."
"You work at a bank, you drive a brand-new BMW, your body is. .uh, very, uh, wow. Um, how can you be 19?"
"Well, actually my dad owns the bank, and he bought me the car for my graduation last year. And I work out a lot." He smiled.
"No way. Let me see your license please." She held out her hand.
He shrugged and pulled out his wallet. He took out his license and handed it to her. She read the date of birth aloud. "February 12, 1982. Holy Crap. I slept with a 19 year old. I committed a crime." She handed back the license to him.
"What? No you didn't!"
"Well, I practically did! Paul, you're still a child! You're only 3 years older than my kid! I should be giving you time-out in the corner or something, not sleeping with you." Lorelai shook her head. "I can't believe it."
"Okay, so wait, you're saying that we shouldn't date anymore?"
"Yeah. I'm sorry Paul. I just wouldn't feel right."
"Okay. I understand." He paused. "So I guess that means we shouldn't sleep together anymore either?"
She laughed and said, "Paul!"
He laughed and said, "Just kidding!"
"I really do think you're a great person. You're sweet and funny and very . . . sexy." She smiled.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. And I'm sure you'll find someone great, someone who's a little closer to your age."
"I guess you're right. Well, I had a fun time with you too. An amazing time. And don't ever forget, you're beautiful, inside and out." He smiled.
"Thank you Paul."
He stood up. "Well, I guess I should go. I'll see you Lorelai."
"Goodbye Paul."
Lorelai watched as Paul walked to his BMW and drove off. As she thought about it, she couldn't help laughing. She stood up and walked towards her jeep, and headed home to Rory. `Rory would really get a kick out of this,' she thought. `But I'll save it for when she's a little older.'
