Lorelai is thrown for a loop when her former fiancé, Max appears unexpectedly in this surprise-laden episode. After a chance encounter with Max in Hartford, Lorelai begins to second-guess her decision to call off their engagement. Back at home, Rory decides to enter a Chilton speech contest in an attempt to take her mind off the college-admissions process---and beat her longtime rival, Paris. But Rory may end up having to work with Paris when the headmaster decides to change some rules. Meanwhile, Sookie finds out why she hasn't felt like herself lately.
