Background: Carlyle moved to Night City at an early age, when his father was transferred to the NC branch of Militech. Despite his family's protests, he went into the police academy and became a beat cop after he was proven to be good for the job. Realizing that the only way to advance in the department was either to sell out to the corps, sell out to the criminals, or have some- one with influence back your career, he asked his father to help him move up in the ranks of the NCPD. While Carlyle simply did his job (and did it well), his father used his sizeable influence to get him a few promotions. Three years ago, he was promoted to detective. Finding he enjoyed the job, he turned down the possibility for a promotion to captain in favor of being on the scene and making a difference. His father has since turned his attention elsewhere, leaving Carlyle abandoned in the role of the worn detective, just trying to solve his cases. He's happy where he is.

Personality profile: To say Carlyle won't take any shit isn't exactly true. When someone feeds him a line of lies, he realizes it pretty straight off and simply gives the bullshitter an obliging smile. Carlyle is more interested in following any leads in his present case than to engage in any smalltalk, and he'll cut to the chase if an interrogation turns into that. Commonly not as ruthless or cold as other cops, he prefers non-violent means to get the information he needs. However, he has aired out a few uncooperative people in his time. All part of the job description.
