Okay, all you punks - you've got the 'tude, you've got the cash,
and you wanna get cybered. Sure, an attitude can make you punk - but
yer not cyberpunk yet. That's what we're gonna take care of here. But
first, some preliminary info..
First off: What is cyberwear?
The answer? Cyberwear is any piece of machinery or electronics
that is grafted directly to your body - this can be anything from a
simple skin watch or tech hair implants, all the way down to a
cybernetic leg to replace the flesh one that booster just blew
off..
The Next thing you need to know.. is just what kind of surgery
it's gonna take. Well, to make it REAL easy for you all, we got
surgery codes for you. Every piece of 'ware is listed with a surgery
code, as well as a listing of how much humanity that ware'll cost ya.
Listed below are the surgery codes and what the HELL they MEAN:
N - Neglible
Required: Mall clinic/drop-in bodyshop
Surgical Time: 1 hour
Surgical Damage: 1 point (this is damage YOU take from the
surgery)
Surgical costs: Included WITH installation
Difficulty: Easy (10) - this is the skill required by the
surgeon.
M - Minor

Surgical Time: 2 hours
Surgical Damage: 1D6 +1 point

So what in the name of William Gibson does ALL of that DREK mean??
Simple. It tells you just what kind of facilities are needed for the
surgery, i.e you CANNOT get a cyberarm with thickened myomars and
superchrome and armor and an EMP shielding on it if you just drop
into a simple mall clinic - they don't have the RESOURCES to handle
that surgery. Likewise, you don't go to Night City General just to
get a Chemskin job or a tattoo - it also details the kind of damage
you gotta HEAL - this ain't no fantasy, chummer.. it's reality, and
in reality - even with speedheal and all the other wonderful drugs -
a wound takes TIME to heal over. You can't just get a cyberlimb
installed and walk out right after it.. well.. if you're a booster,
you might - but us smart guys don't wanna frag ourselves over that
badly, do we? I didn't think so....
Now.. you're probably wondering what the hell I mean when I say
'humanity cost'. Well, face it chummer. The human body was not MEANT
to have metal grafted to it. The more metal and plastic to graft on
yourself, the less human you become. What this means, is that stat we
call 'empathy' - your ability to empathize with human beings - goes
DOWN. Every 10 points of humanity costs you one point of empathy. And
guess what, chummer - at Empathy 2, you start getting erotic with the
toaster. So? Well.. At empathy 0 - or below - guess what.. You're NOT
a human no more, you're suffering something called
'CyberPsychosis'.
This is when the body gets so much metal and plastic grafted to
it, that it simple shuts down all emotion. You become a machine - not
a human. CyberPsycho's are great folks - really.. I mean, they only
kill in coldblooded rage anything human. Great at parties.
Ohh.. and one other thing - when you go Psycho, the nice fellows
in MAX-TAC, CSWAT, and the Psych-Squad go out and pay you a courtesy
call - with heavy weapons. Yer survival chance drops rapidly.
And that.. is what humanity is. So be careful.. It's a GREAT rush
to skate the Edge of Psychohood, but when you crash over - the drop's
a killer. Literally.
And that, chummers, is the whole view of cyberwears in a nutshell
- from here, you can check out any of the sections on it. Included
will be name, surgery code, monetary cost, humanity cost, and a brief
description of what the hell it does.

the Ripper
(aptly named Ripperdoc...)
