Simona Amânar Delivers Baby Boy

Former World and Olympic Champion Simona Amânar gave birth to a 3.8 kg [8.4 lbs] baby boy yesterday at the Odobescu maternity ward in Timisoara. Simona’s husband, Cosmin Tabara, was extremely happy saying he’s always wanted a baby boy and his dream had come true. “I saw he was already checking out the baby girls, and since I love Simona very much, I respect her wishes and I’d like our next baby to be a girl,” said the happy father. Simona had her baby delivered through a C-section, after a 3-hour long surgery. The baby’s name is Ioan Alexandru and he’s as healthy as can be. “I was very nervous when I saw the baby. I watched the delivery from above, where the med students usually watch operations, and I wouldn’t have liked to be in Simona’s place. I started crying when I saw her,” added an emotional Cosmin Tabara.

The two parents have known the baby will be a boy since the fourth month of pregnancy and they were well prepared. Right after giving birth, Simona received a huge bouquet of yellow roses from her husband, who explained yellow is the first color babies learn to distinguish.
Simona was also visited by Gina Gogean right after giving birth, who brought her a bouquet of flowers from Simona’s former coach, Mariana Bitang. Another former teammate of Simona’s, Maria Olaru, immediately called all her friends to let them know the good news. “I was extremely happy for Simona and after I found out she gave birth to a baby boy, I started calling all my friends right away,” said Maria Olaru. She promised to visit Simona during the next few days along with Claudia Presăcan and Lavinia Milosovici. The former gymnast will leave the hospital in five or six days. In the meantime, her husband has promised to give all his friends cigars to celebrate.
