Error #5

Behavioral error:

Neglecting to use horn to alert car to danger, resulting in a collision

When/where:

12/6/03, Galyans' parking lot in Orland

Why this is an error:

The sensible thing to do would have been to use the horn, most likely preventing the accident.

Processes:

Conditioning
With a collision imminent, my mind flashed back to the last time I was in a car accident. The emotional memory of that incident interfered with the procedural memory previously engaged (knowledge of how to drive a car). Emotions flooded my mind, and the strength of them impaired my ability to think clearly.

Memory
I never was taught twhat to do in the specific situation I was in. Having not been conditioned, I didn't know the correct response to the stimulus well enough to automatically perform it.
