Trusting someone I should not have trusted

Why this is an error:

Placing my trust in this person resulted in my getting hurt when I found out he was not trustworthy.

Processes:

Conditioning
Trusting people has previously been positively reinforced by being treated decently. In this case, however, my behavior was punished by the less than pleasant experience of being lied to and being decieved.

Memory
I failed to remember a previous incident in which my trust was punished. This is a failure of my episodic memory. Had I successfully remembered the unpleasant consequences to my actions, I might have been discouraged from repeating them.
