They say to guard your heart;
That loving isn't very smart
Because others decide to let go.
They say it's always the same.
They say it only brings you pain,
But what do they know?
They warn you to never fall,
To never, ever give your all
To someone other than yourself.
They say you can't go wrong
Not writing poetry and love songs
And keeping your love on the shelf.
But this wisdom comes only
From the bitter few who are lonely,
Who have run from love out of fear.
But I know this fact full well:
Love's the opposite of hell.
Now, would you want to bring hell here?
If you were to never fall,
To never, ever give your all
To someone other than yourself,
Your life would be like hell on earth;
Not like mine. For what it's worth,
Have fun on your shelf.
