We present for your consideration
Two groups in conflict from conversation;
Parents and students who share the lament:
"That's what I said, but that's not what I meant."
Resolution? Conclusion? Not here, not today;
Not presented by actors in the lines that they say.
The world is a stage, but we write the plot;
We are the ones who conclude it, or not.
So, if this seems familiar then lend me an ear;
I've got a few questions before we leave here.
How clear do you speak? Do you say what you mean?
How much time passes before you come clean?
I know no one's perfect and I don't mean to preach
but when you love someone how far do you reach?
Do you tell them the truth and not run and hid
Or do you do your best to keep it inside?
We all say things that don't sound as they're meant
And sometimes it's this that causes big rents.
So for parents and students, now far apart,
I say don't let this distance grow in your hearts.
Explain what you mean and mean what you say;
Don't wait for tomorrow, do it today.
Look at the world through another's eyes
Their view might be better, you might be surprised.
Or you still might not like what they have to say
But accept it in love, it's the only right way
Now for all those offended by the show we present
I've one more thing to say: "That's not what I meant!"
