The JourneyBy Gina Brown Copyright 1999![]() ![]() One day my father came to me and announced, "Come with me on a wondrous journey!" Ecstatic at such a request I dropped everything and followed. We began along a narrow path, where the rock and rubble pounded under my feet, but I still continued ahead thrilled at what was to come. I held my father's hand and hopped about like a little child begging to know when and where we were headed. "Are we almost there? What will it be like?" I asked. He just smiled, patted my head and replied, "We have a ways to go, but once we are there it will be amazing to your eyes!" Along the way, there came about a spectacular sight. Oh, how beautiful it was! Enticing music filled the air and a sweet smell drew all of my senses to life." Oh, Father surely this is the place! Hurry let's run to make it there before nightfall." I exclaimed, and ran ahead with all the energy of a two year old. But when I looked behind me, there he stood patient, and lovingly saying, "No my child this is not the place, we must continue on our way." I hung my head low and pouted, "What do you mean this isn't the place. Just look at it! It is simply wonderful! Why can't we stop here and at least taste the goodness?" My father just stood there without a word and hastened me to his side. It was then that I became stubborn and agitated at his way of thinking. "How could he be so insensitive?" I thought, "This is a good place to go, why can't we stop here?" I had grown tired, hungry and cold. Yet, he just stood there lovingly looking at me, waiting for my return. Many times I find myself eagerly begging the Father to pick up the pace to where He is leading me. Desirous of him to explain all that is to come, and where I am to go. However, often is the case, that He has to reign me in from my own ambitions and compulsive areas of life. It isn't until I take heed to his instructions that I begin to realize just how important the journey in itself is. The old hymn, A closer walk with thee so eloquently explains how that is just what life is, to walk closer to our Lord God, our Father. The place we are going to is Him. It is within this wondrous trek of life that we begin to find that our relational place is with the Lord. "I am the Way the Truth and the light" Jesus claims. Which in turn becomes, the way that we follow, the truth that we trust, and the light that fills us up. All that is needed he has provided. Where else can we go? Where else do we need to go, but to Jesus. I have learned through spending time with him that his ways are not my ways. I do not see all that he sees. I know that he is faithful and just when he says, "It will be amazing to your eyes!" Because God is simply amazing!
