Traveling Ginny's Diary

Vesuvius, Virginia   Page Three

April 21, 2001

Here we are at the Monacan Indian Village. Behind us is a wall the Indians made that goes all the way around the village to keep out the wild animals in the winter. We had fun climbing on the rocks, pretending we were climbing a mountain. See the basket? Birdie made that just for me, and it is mine to keep!

Looky, Looky, California Ginny and I are helping to grind corn for corn cakes.

They are sorta like pancakes, but taste like cornbread-yum!

Talking about corn cakes made us hungry, so Margaret Ann said it was time to leave. California Ginny is showing me some Virginia BlueBells. They look just like bells hanging in the air. I am sorry to leave the Natural Bridge. Maybe I could come back again sometime to see the Lost River and the Lace Falls, and there is so much more!

Of course, we are going to visit the Gift Shop before we leave

Can you guess where we stopped for supper????

You're right....it's the Pink Cadillac Diner! The whole building is painted pink, and there is a real pink Cadillac parked outside.

Farm Ginny loaned me a "50s" outfit and GinnyMargo showed me around. We looked at the menu, but we already knew we were going to have Elvis Burgers for our supper!

GinnyMargo and I climbed the old Wurlitzer jukebox to see all the records inside. . When we finally reached the top, we just sat there-enjoying the view! GinnyMargo gave me a record to take home for a souvenir     Well, we had another late night. When we arrived back at Peace and Plenty Farm, we were going to change into our night clothes. GinnyMargo took me into Margaret Ann's office to show me her rack of hair ribbons on the wall! Golly-there are ribbons of every color. We cut off a red ribbon for me to match my beautiful red nightgown that Debby gave me.

Just about everyone else fell asleep, but Vivacious Ginny, GinnyMargo, and Stuart Little wanted to play one more game of Scrabble with me.  Guess what! They gave me the Scrabble game to take on my trip.

April 22, 2001

This is my last day at Peace and Plenty Farm, and Margaret Ann says it is going to be exciting! First, we all got dressed up for church. FarmGinny loaned me a pretty flowered dress and hat to wear. She says it came from the Ginny and Friends Get-Together in 2000. Aunt Mary gave me the white bible to carry to church.

We're back from church, and Margaret Ann gave me a really cute sunsuit to wear-GinnyShirley has one just like it!

Shirley Temple invited us to come upstairs to see her closet and she said she had something special for us to do afterwards!   I was surprised to learn that Shirley Temple travels around. She has been to the libraries and elementary schools in the area. She shows everyone her clothes which she wore in all her movies, and she even has copies of her movies! Everyone liked her so much, they even wrote about her in the newspaper. Shirley likes to share her beautiful things with everyone. She and ShirleyGinny like to dress alike, so they can look like twins!

Can you believe it?! We were invited to tea with Princess Diana. She is so pretty and she showed us all of her wardrobe, too. When we grow up, we'll have just as many pretty things, I bet.

You really won't believe this-I got to ride on a motorcycle!!! Margaret Ann's husband Ed took Aunt Mary, SC Ginny, Gina, and me on a ride.  We rode in the sidecar and he rode on the motorcycle. It was so much fun, and we didn't get any bugs on us because the sidecar has a windshield.

You really won't believe this!!! We went fishing in a boat!SC Ginny, Gina, Jimmy, New YorkGinny, and FarmGinny went with me.

Aunt Mary brought her boat with her from South Carolina, and we pushed it into the creek in front of Margaret Ann's house.    Fun!!

Looky-we're catching fish! Ginny Ruth is watchin' from the bank 'cause she didn't want to get her feet wet. We just rolled up our jeans and jumped right in. I'm wearing a fishin' vest that Margaret Ann gave me.  It has lots of pockets and a "fly" on it. It's really a fish hook, but fisherman call it a "fly" for some reason. We even have a net to catch the fish in and a creel to keep them in.

I tried to get Ginny Ruth to jump in the water, but she wanted to stay on the bank. It's so much fun in the water!

Wow! After we finished fishin' we had to throw all the fish back in, so they could swim back to their families.    We were so hungry, so we decided to have a picnic. Jimmy cooked hot dogs and hamburgers for us and there was a big watermelon for dessert!    That's me in the front. I'm wearing a red-checked shirt and jeans that Aunt Mary made for me. FarmGinny is right next to me on the left.  Behind us are Delicate Virginia, GinnyBlondie, GinnyKid, NewYorkGinny, CaliforniaGinny, GinnyMargo, Vivacious Ginny, Ginny Ruth, SC Ginny, and Jimmy. We sure are havin' fun!

Here we are again! The grownups behind us are (left to right): Margaret Ann Whittington, Ginny Green, Geri Wagner, Mary Lee Yates, and Ruth Wagner. They worked so hard today to make sure we had a good time.

I couldn't believe my eyes! Margaret Ann had sunsuits for some of the other girls, too! Aren't we just the cutest girls you've ever seen??!!

Here's a picture of me with all of the Peace and Plenty girls (except GinnyChris-she was taking a nap).

Everyone's asleep but me. I loved sleeping in the pretty sleeping bag that came from the 2000 Ginny and Friends Get-Together. I'm getting my new suitcase packed tonight. Margaret Ann gave it to me and it is just right to hold my new things, including the Etch-a-Sketch she gave me to play with in the car tomorrow.

I'm leaving Peace and Plenty Farm. Margaret Ann says I might get to come back again if she wins the RAFFLE-whatever that is! I'm going to South Carolina in the red Mustang with Aunt Mary, SC Ginny, Gina, Aunt Ginny, New York Ginny, and Jimmy. Good thing we're small!

GinnyBlondie gave me a big hug and said we'd meet again, Thanks for everything, I had lots of fun with all my cousins,

  Love, TGinny
