Dear County Executive Steinhaus,
Since it has now been almost two months since my last correspondence with
your office. I felt that now was an appropriate time to check in once again
regarding the status of matters pertaining to the office of County
Historian.
The year is now nearly one third over. If matters are to proceed with
re-instating this office in the year 2005 to among other things, "preserve
and record our rich heritage and make it accessible to residents" [County
Executive Nov. 1, 2004 Press Release], the process of seeking and appointing
a qualified person to the position of County Historian MUST begin NOW.
It would seem pertinent that this position be filled in the near future in
order that the individual chosen by you and presented to the legislature for
approval, may come on board and survey the needs and requirements of the
office prior to the start of 2006 Budget Process. Local Historians
(including myself) and others from across the nation, are depending on you
to fulfill your committment to Dutchess County's rich history that began
"even before the creation of the United States", and insure that the person
chosen to fill this important position within County Government as required
by our County Charter can informatively participate in the Budget Process
and be able to plan for this office's future.
In your 2005 State of the County Address you said,
"As a final lift to the spirits of local historians and others passionate
about history, I am so pleased THIS YEAR to be able to take a step to
connect our past, our present and our future. Even before the creation of
the United States, Dutchess County played a vital role in our nation's
history."
LET'S ROLL!
Actions Speak Louder than Words!
Looking forward to word of impending action from your office and thanking
you for your service to our County. I remain -
Sincerely yours,
Virginia A. Buechele
