Come, travellers, sit with the gypsy a while, here by the fire and learn the ancient art of scrying with a crystal.

The first thing that you will need, brave adventurers, is a crystal of your own. It is best to make it as clear as possible with as little imperfection as you can find. I find a clear quartz the best for me, but some people are more comfortable with the darker stones such as smoky quartz or obsidian.
Once you have found your crystal and made it your own, you will need to cleanse it to remove any other energies that it might have collected from people handling it prior to you. To do this you will need to soak it in salty seawater if possible, if not use rainwater, for a few days, then place it out in the sunlight for a few more days.
Now it is cleansed and ready for you. It is time for you to begin to make it your own. To do this you will need to handle it as much as possible. Feel its texture, look at its size and shape and colour. Get to know it intimately. Become friends with it and allow it to become friends with you. You will need a stand for your crystal also. Wood is good. Be careful of the elaborate ones as they may scratch the surface of your new crystal. Do not rush the process. It may take some time for you to achieve a state of friendliness with your crystal. It is necessary for you to be totally comfortable with it and relaxed, for you to use it successfully for scrying.

When you feel that you are finally comfortable with your crystal, seat yourself in a room with little direct sunlight. The reflections on the surface of the crystals are a distraction, so you will need as few as possible. Place your crystal on its stand before you and look at it. Look at the surface, noting the few reflections that are there, then push them away, ignore them and look deeper, into the crystal.
The best way to describe what you are trying to do is like this. Imagine that you are looking at a pool of water, at its flat surface, see the reflections of the trees and grasses and even clouds in that surface, then shift your eyes to see the small fish swimming just below the surface of the water, and deeper, down to the sand and rocks at the bottom of the pool. This is what you are trying to do with your crystal. You are looking for the fish below the surface so to speak.

As you look into your crystal, past the surface reflections, focus your mind on what it is that you wish to see. Think about it, concentrate, and you will see the crystal cloud over. Keep focusing and looking and the clouds will part and you will see images begin to form. To change the images, you need to change your thought, concentrate on the next thing you wish to know or see and the image will change accordingly. Now the world is open to your gaze.
A word of warning! Never let another handle your crystal. It is now tuned to you and if touched by another you will have to begin the process of cleansing etc. all over again. Do not try at first, to do it for long periods as you may find yourself becoming nauseated or getting headaches. It is best to begin with short attempts at first, of ten minutes or so and gradually build up to longer periods. It is also good to cover your crystal with a soft cloth of natural substance to inhibit the light. Over time it becomes less reflective and easier to use, by doing this. Choose a cloth that is a plain colour you really like.

Now you too can adventure into the crystal and travel to far places that are fogotten by time. All you need is your crystal and the courage to do so.
