SOUND

There are many sounds all around us, day after day, engulfing us and affecting us. Each note of the musical scale has a vibration, a frequency, that our bodies respond to in differing ways. A good example of this is wind chimes. Each of them has a different sound, a different tone. You will find yourself attracted to a certain tone in the windchime range. High or low. You will really like one and not the other, although you are probably not consciously aware of this fact. In fact, you probably haven't given it much thought at all. You simply hear the sound and either like it or dislike it, without analysing why it affects you in this way.

On your body you have chakras, main energy centres. These chakras also respond to sound. The different notes on the musical scale affect each chakra differently. The chakras are linked into the bodies own self healing system and a thing that adversely affects a chakra can contribute towards a 'dis-ease' in that area of the body. It is important to be aware of this and to understand that there are other sounds that can help us to heal certain areas of the body as well.

SOUND IS A POTENT FORCE AND MUST BE USED WITH RESPECT.

This same energy derived from sound, affects our moods, our personalities. Music is something that we all listen to in one form or another at some time. Harsh aggravating sounds (music) affects us in the same way. We become aggravated, without cause, simply by listening to this type of sound. Peaceful, relaxing music makes us peaceful and relaxed. Music with a fast, steady beat is energising. I like to call this type of music 'ironing music' because it is something that I do not like much doing and it motivates me till the job is done. Sound can be used in many ways, for good or ill.

Singing, producing sound within ourselves, is used to express our moods. If you listen to the sound you are making when you sing, it is a good indicator of the mood that you are in at that time. You can consciously take that same sound, change it with an effort of will, sing something totally different, and change your mood to the one that you want. Your emotional state, your mental state, both affect your physical state. All of these things are connected to make you healthy. If one or the other is out of balance, then you become physically ill. The trick to good health is to keep them all in balance. Sound is one way of helping to make this state a reality.

If you are feeling off colour, avoid harsh, strident sounds (e.g. building sites, machinery noises, loud t.v. or radio, dogs barking etc.) Try to put yourself in a serene place, with soft soothing sounds around you, trees rustling or water gently flowing for example. Listen to the soft, relaxing type of music. These soft, gentle sounds help your body to help itself. They help to open up or energise the chakras to accellerate the healing process within the body.

The higher tones of the musical scale work on the higher chakras, the lower ones, the lower chakras on the body. If, for example, you were having problems with your legs, feet, pelvic region, you would need to listen to sounds of the lower tones. If you had problems with the upper part of your body or the head region, you would need to listen to the higher tones, but softly, no harsh, loud sounds.

The native peoples of the world know that sound has power. They accompany all of their ceremonies and rites with sound of some form. The native aboriginal magic man of Australia 'sings' his magic into effect. The native american peoples have their 'spirit songs'. Sound has power.

Look around your environment and listen to the sounds that you take for granted. See how they make you feel...e.g. good or bad. Note which ones aggravate you and which ones you like, which ones make you feel peaceful. Once you have discovered these things, try to remove the aggravating ones if you can and note the difference within yourself, with your moods, your mental attitude and your health. You will be surprised at the difference. With a little practice you will soon be feeling like a new person. Remember: sounds that you enjoy are not necessarily ones that others around you will enjoy, so try to keep it a personal thing. We all vibrate at different frequencies and those sounds that suit us might aggravate another who is vibrating at a different rate. Be considerate of others.

SOUND HAS POWER. TREAT IT WITH RESPECT.
