Longtime Olympia resident Esther Amanda Girard, 79, who had lived on the Harbor for a year, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at the Hoquiam home of her niece, Jacquelyn Ryan, who had cared for her. She had been ill with cancer for a long time.
Mrs. Girard was born Nov. 28, 1919, at Roche Harbor to William Beecher and Lucile (Crawford) Smith. She married Joe Brusha in 1935; they later divorced.
On Aug. 22, 1948, she married John G. Girard. He died in 1982.
Mrs. Girard loved working in her garden, tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting and traveling.
She is survived by two sons, Allan J. Brusha of Seattle and John W. Brusha of Aberdeen; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A sister, Vivian A. Girard, died last year.
