Paralympics

There are 18 sports in the Paralympics and 14 are in the olympics.

The 18 events are Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Boccia, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Football, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Wheelchair Rugby, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis & Volleyball.

There will be 4000 athletes with some kind of disability competing at the Sydney Paralympics.

The 2000 Paralympic games Start on the 18th of October and end on the 29th of October.

The disabilities Paralympic athletes have are paraplegics, tetraplegics, amputees, blind and cerebral palsied individuals, "les-autres" and those with an intellectual disability.

The Paralympic Games are held every four years, just after the Olympic Games and they are held at the same arena.

The name Paralympic comes from the Latin word Para which means 'with'.

In the 1996 Paralympic Games Australia won 42gold, 37silver & 27bronze medals.
