Beatty is the head firefighter in this society.  He is the exact opposite of Montag.  Therefore, he had a great impact on Montag's goal.  He made the firefighters burn down Montag's house.  He knew Montag had books.  His overall role in the novel was the one who people were scared of.  He was kinda like the one who ruled the town.  Beatty was definately for the system.  I did not like Beatty because if I had worked my whole life to get my house and all the things that were in it and Beatty came along and burnt my house down, I would be so mad.
