The Rescue - Page 3 “Come in and close the door behind you,” Pedro said to Rosy and Jose. Rosy ignored Pedro, CatDog was on and she was watching…. Intently. Jose walked into the small room and turned to close the door. Rosy was still sitting in front of the TV. She turned and looked at Jose and Pedro when the cartoon broke for a commercial. “Do we have to?” Rosy whined. “This sounds important. You know Daddy wouldn’t call us in here if it wasn’t.” Jose snarled at Rosy. Rosy sneered at Jose as she trotted into the small room. “Daddy do you want me to wake up Chet and get him in here too?” asked Jose. “Kiss up,” mocked Rosy, and she flicked her tail in Jose’s face. “No,” Pedro said, “later, maybe, but not yet.” Jose slammed the door shut as Rosy sauntered into the room. She loved annoying him and she did it every chance she got! “I have just received an email from Archie Godwin.” Announced Pedro. “We have been called into action.” You could have heard a pin drop in the room at that moment. Rosy got a far off look in her eye and her imagination took off. Archie and the Chi Gang were always going off on exciting adventures. Even that little brat Lily got to go along. Not like Rosy and her boring life, stuck at home with a boring brother. She longed for excitement, for adventure, but most of all she longed to get out of this house! Pedro outlined the email for the younger ones. Jose was paying rapt attention to ever detail. Rosy snickered at him as she wandered in and out of her daydreams of high adventure and dangerous excitement as a Moll in the Chi Gang. “Mikey is missing!! We are going to help find him.” Jose gasped in awe. He was enthralled by Mikey, the dangerous, afraid of nothing gangster Chi. Mikey wore leather and he heard a rumor that he smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol – something called a Ruby Relaxer. He had a Bitch in every city across the Mid Western United States. There were stories about Mikey being the father of all Chi’s in the Mid-West, but Jose knew that was just a story. Jose and Rosy were gone. Their imaginations had taken off and they only half understood what Pedro was telling them. Their minds were deeply immersed in their own fantasies of dangerous adventures with the Chi Gang. “We can take Daddy’s pickup and travel to Kentucky.
There we will pick up Nookie. Rosy I need you to email her and have her on
standby till we can get there.” “Yea, yea, Kentucky, Nookie, email, standby, I got it.” “Archie has a plan that we must follow. We have to find Mikey.” “When do we leave?” Rosy and Jose unintentionally asked in unison. “We are waiting for Princess Chi Chi and Snooty Noel to arrive.” Replied Pedro. “As soon as they arrive, we can leave. But we need to get ready now.” “When?” persisted Rosy. “Possibly tonight, but it really depends on Snooty Noel’s driving.” Pedro told Jose to get Chet and load the truck up with a large sack of dog food and plenty of water. Jose wondered if they should explain to Chet what was happening, but Pedro just shook his head. “We’ll tell him when we get on the road, we can’t risk any human involvement.” Pedro took Rosy aside and explained to her that it was cold where they were going, might even be some of the white stuff on the ground that she hates. She needed to get Pee Pads and sweaters into the truck. With any luck Snooty and the Princess would arrive tonight, and they could be in Kentucky by late afternoon the next day. Pedro hoped Chet wouldn’t mind driving. He needed to get some shut eye and to think about the plan. Rosy sat perched on the back of the big chair, staring out the bay window. It was that time of day when it was no longer day, and not yet night. Shadows fell long and sinewy across the front lawn and the smell of Night Blooming Jasmine was lingering in the air. She was dozing, nodding off every few minutes, only to jerk herself awake. Pedro was cuddling on the couch and Jose was gnawing his favorite rawhide. The house was settling down for the evening. Another uneventful day in the life of Rosy the Chihuahua. She thought about how boring her life was. The trip to Joplin was the most exciting thing she had ever heard of, and she was bursting with excitement. They had to wait for those old biddies, Princess Chi Chi and Snooty Noel. Princess my butt, she quietly snorted to herself. She wanted to be out, and on her way! She wanted to be on an adventure NOW! She put her head back down on her paws and drifted off as a blue jay squawked haughtily at the family cat. |
