| People's Choice Awards...Not My Choice For some reason, I love award shows. I love the cameras, the fashions and seeing who did and didn't decide to show up. Everytime there is one on, I try to catch it, including the preshow or Red Carpet Review...whatever is going on. So of course, last nite, I tuned into the "People's Choice" and began to waste 3 hours of my life. My first question is, who would continually give actors/musicians/singers awards that never show up. Is it just me, but isn't showing up just a part of being gracious. Come on, there is no way they have anything better to do. Now, don't get me wrong. I loove the Dixie Chicks. I looove their music anyway. Them, not so much. I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen them on minor award shows. Yeah, they'll show up to pick up a grammy or two, but can't possibly make it to the shows where their attending doesn't put their career in stake. I wonder which of the Grammy committee member actually own all three of their cds. It's not just the Dixie Chicks, I'm just singling them out because I know their attendance record. As for the others not in attendance, You're just tacky. Gripe #2- Who picks the darn nominees?? I have an awfully hard time admitting that Faith Hill has more fans than Shania Twain. Who's buying her albums then? Her grandmother? It's always the same people for the last couple of years that make it suspicous. Now, the category I had the most trouble with was probably the Female Singer category where besides Faith, J Lo and Celine Dion were nominees. I thought America hated Celine Dion. Aren't we always saying 'Go Back To Canada' and yet she's nominated. Maybe the problem is that America's afraid to admit it digs Celine and heart going on. Favorite New Comedy Series wasn't much better for me either. Am I the only one who hasn't seen 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter, The Bernie Mac Show or Cedric the Entertainer Presents?? According to the Nielsen Ratings, which are supposedly the basis for nomination....I don't think so. How about 'Good Morning Miami' which I know some critics don't like, but I personally love. The ratings sure seem to be higher than the rest. Maybe this is just further proof for my claim that Nielsen Ratings are not a fair way of picking the most successful shows. Another rant for another day. Gripe #3-Online voting? Who knew? Am I the only one that was oblivous to the fact that voting for the "Peoples Choice" took place online. This is not a commonly known tibbit...so how can they actually be the "Peoples Choice?" Well, I guess its fair to say they advertised it during the show. Voting for the categories of New Dramatic Series and New Comedy Series did occur with advertisements. Course, most of the American public probably hadn't seen these shows and therefore, could actually, care less. Gripe #4-Don't worry, I'm almost done. Gripe #4 is personal. The presenters consisted of every couple on tv...including Dylan & Jake from Good Morning. I watch the whole, what..3 hour show...No, absolutely no Ed and Carol. What's up with that? That in itself is enough to give the whole awards show a big thumbs down. |
