He's not gay -- and other revelations.
By LOUIS B. HOBSON

He insists his past is an open book.

"What are they going to say? That I once had a closet full of women's clothes? It's true," says Foley, who starred from 1989 to 1994 in the outrageous Canadian comedy series The Kids in the Hall.

"Drag acts were a staple of The Kids in the Hall. I paraded my sordid past on TV. There's nothing the press could come up with that would shock me."

How about the rumours that he's gay?

"Most of Hollywood perceives me as gay already," says Foley, who been married to Tabatha Southey for seven years and is the father of their sons Ned and Basil Southey.

"They've got what they figure is a pretty air-tight case. I played gay characters on Kids and regularly dressed as a woman. Then there's the fact that (Kids star) Scott Thompson is openly gay.

"The fact I kissed him numerous times on the show makes me gay by association."

Foley says he is cementing the gay rumour with his role in the teen comedy Blast from the Past that opens Feb. 12. He plays Alicia Silverstone's gay roommate.

"It is definitely my way of revitalizing my gay image. I also managed to make Scott Thompson angry in the process.

"Scott is furious that he can't get any of the gay roles that have recently become a staple of TV sitcoms and feature films."

Foley feels it's a conscious effort on behalf of producers to cast straight actors in these gay roles. "It's their way of defusing criticism. They can point out the actor is straight and doesn't really fancy boys."

Foley currently stars as station manager Dave Nelson on the NBC comedy NewsRadio, which is in its fourth year.

"We're NBC's gypsies. They keep juggling us around."

NewsRadio is currently seen Tuesday nights on NBC.

"We don't know yet if we'll be picked up for another year. I'm the only person on the show who isn't paranoid. With NewsRadio and The Kids in the Hall, I've spent 10 years on TV always on the verge of cancelation."

The uncertainty with the status of NewsRadio is one reason Foley tries to keep himself busy during each hiatus.

Last summer, Foley filmed the political satire Dick and supplied the voice of Flik the ant in A Bug's Life.

"I have to work. I have two kids and a mortgage.
