Poetry by Jamie Jay The Song Goes On I sit in class The teacher droning on My head hits the desk Almost asleep. There the bell goes. Signaling us to leave. I leap up animate again. Ready to go. Tired to the bone. One last class A new student walks in They whisper she is deaf. The band all stares She walks forward and picks up the flute The sweetest song comes out. We all stare in amazement We saw notes She saw a life She gave the notes a life They flew through the room A sweet melody heard round the world The next day she didn't show up They said she had a heart attack So young they said To young to survive The band walked in Unsure the next day Knowing in our hearts, we had been touched By the one who couldn't hear We went about quietly And played. The notes gained lives They flew from 20 instruments We played for the one who gave music life When the big night came We clambered up on the stage Our parents there to cheer We didn't wait for the intro This was for the girl I'll never know her name That thought us the meaning of music That night the song, it poured from us. The best we could ever do. And we found The song went on In each one of us. Song Life is like a song Long, boring at times But then it hits you The day or song that hits your heart The one that stands out above Above and beyond all comers That stays in your heart For all your life There to comfort and relax On the days of dismal despair To excite and heighten all your days. Cat Though despised Ragged and torn Left to die The cat clings on To hope to life and to love It prays for a family to care and cherish For it for all times Then one day The most dismal of the year There they walk The dream family Rich Proper Happy She approaches And finds a boot For all her cares The family cries in disgust At her matted fur And her gray collar She crawls back Away from the ones who should give love And she cries Tears of great despair Along comes a girl Poor as can be, who hears the cats cry She picks her up, Looks her in the eyes And falls in love once again Soul mates for life Together forever now never apart Two lonely hearts calling to one another Find true love at last. Dreams Dreams are like feathers Floating softly in the wind Till they find the one who can catch them The dreams they float As a soft as a snowy morn But for that aren’t easy to catch They hover just out of reach While you work and slave On earth to grasp them Your dream may be Whatever you desire Just work some day you’ll reach your desire Healing Time They say time heals The wounds that are gained But what if healing Isn't exactly what you wanted. For with healing Sometimes comes forgetfulness And pride because you survived What can you do when the healing Creates more problems then it solves? Sun Moon & Stars I am the sun, I rise, then set, I am the moon, I shine, then darken, I am the stars, I twinkle, then flash, I am the sun, I am the moon, I am the stars, We rule the skies. Writer "why doth ye write? It avails ye none. It buys no food Nor gives comfort To any but thee." "I write for what is lost the lived shed in wars the babies yet unborn the parents who cry when a child life is lost." "Yet it can't help them they write obscurely, thine meanings not found just words on paper to all they point them at." "My child I point at none they who would look would surely find I weep for they Who only find worlds on paper." "True meaning is fond nay not on paper but in lives and what one would do with that gift." "For me I write to give hope to they who grieve to give comfort to they who see life as it is." "I write for the child Who too young to write Lies at my feet Who seeks the gift But finds not the words." The Mark of a Wise Man A wise man or woman Know when to step down Know when to shut up Knows when to push Knows when to pull A wise man or woman Can admit defeat Can be without others Can comfort others in need Can exclude themselves Smile Smile all day And thee shall be happy Happiness is worked for And anger is too Though to be happy Is harder then to not be Smiles take effort While a frown not so And happiness spreads Like a weed in spring And sows a feeling of joy But anger sows too That horrible feeling So smile all day long And the world shall to. Law to Ourselves We are a law unto ourselves And we choose what we do But think of this Before you do wrong Do I want the consequences For you catch yourself And you always know For you are the supreme judge Only under the father himself And you must think before you act The laws you set now Will benefit you latter And they will guide you life And steer thy way They shall choose what happens to you All poems on this page ©Jamie Jay 2002
