 1968 By-elections

The 1968 by-elections were for the nine Indian communal seats. These became vacant when the nine National Federation Party members walked out of the Legislative Council in 1967, in protest at the Government not consulting them on important issues. After they had missed three-consecutive sittings, their seats were declared vacant.

The by-elections resulted in the National Federation Party winning the nine seats with increased majorities.
