Aston Villa have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Kevin Nolan in a deal worth around £5,000,000. The combative central midfielder started his GI career at Bolton Wanderers before sealing a suprise £12,000,000 move to local rivals Wigan Athletic. Following a fairly successful spell at the JJB Stadium, Spurs snapped up Nolan in an £11,000,000 transfer. Since then, the player has never really settled in London and has struggled to break into the first team at White Hart Lane. He is expected to provide back-up for the first team at Villa Park, covering for the likes of Michael Carrick and Andres Iniesta. 
Aston Villa star Theo Walcott admits hes under pressure to live up to the huge price tag placed on his head. It was only last month that Villa landed the England star in a staggering £39,400,000 deal, making him the second most expensive player in GI history. The former Southampton starlet has so far failed to live up to the hype at Villa Park and in an interview with BBC Sport, the player admitted that he was feeling the pressure. Walcott said the critics are out there, watching his every move and if he should fail to impress at his new club, the knives will be out for himself, manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and Aston Villa. Walcott has only hit 5 league goals in his GI career, with 4 of those coming during loan spells with Fulham and Manchester City respectively. He has also added 1 GI Cup goal to his personal tally. |
