This one also one of my favorite anime. The first time I watched the anime, I'm not interested at all. But now I do! :)
This is the story about a boy named Sakuragi Hanamichi who was dumped by 50 girls in his junior high school years. After he starts his day in the high school (Shohoku High), he met Akagi Haruko, who was offered him to entrance the Shohoku Basketball Club, which is a sister of Akagi Takenori. But everyday, he was just practice the main techniques of playing basketball. He feels unsatisfied, so he always argue with Akagi, who is the captain of the team. The goal of the team was to be in the National Championship, and they have achieved it in the (about) 20th bind of the manga. This manga was estabilished by Takehiko Inoue in 1993. What I know, the manga is from 1-31 binds. But I'm not really sure (my friend told me it's up to 40s!)... :P
