Here are two poems I found and liked in recent issuses of the
thamizh magazine subamaNGaLA.

The first one has relevance for the perennial topic of discord
in SCT. It is from page 72, of the August 94 issue and it is by
shaNmuka subbaiyA.

The second one is from page 23 of the October 1994 issue. It is not a poem published in the magazine, but one quoted in a "vimarisanam" piece by bArathi while reviewing the collection "sAmbal vArththaikaL" by the poet indhiran. While commenting on this poem, the reviewer says: %(in ROMAN transliteration) n^am thamizh sOppu-pEs_t vi_yApirikaLi_n kaikaLil sikki, sOrappa_tuththuvathai, n^ammai 'usAla'viRku mARas solli n^assarikkum, avalaththai, n^am iruppaik kELvi kE_tkiRathu. kam muLaiththa n^avukaLO_tu peri_ya ma_nitharkaL' e_npathu visEsamA_na vari. lU_yi pu_nuvali_n surrealisap pa_timaNGaLaip pOl irukki_nRa_na, in^thira_ni_n pala varikaL. %(following in Mylai font)

Now, here is the poem itself by indhiran.

There is also a controversy involving karikAlan's recent collection of poems, its review by NYAnakkUththan in the August 94 issue, a severe rejoinder to the review by a. mArkS in the September 94 issue and responses to that rejoinder by U. kirushNasAmi and n^AgArjunan in the October issue. Quite interesting and informative. And of course some inevitable name calling. Dr. S. SANKARAN Faculty of Administration University of Regina REGINA, Saskatchewan CANADA S4S 0A2.
